How about a round of applause to the ComCast and Universal Parks and Resorts for including the front line team members at their parks in Orlando, Hollywood, Osaka and the team planing Bejing in a $1,000 bonus. Below is the text of a letter from Tom Williams, Chairman & CEO, Universal Parks & Resorts about the much deserved funds:

Dear Fellow Team Members,

Brian Roberts, Chairman and CEO of Comcast, recently announced awarding special $1,000 bonuses to eligible frontline and non-executive employees.

Universal Parks & Resorts is honored to be a part of the Comcast NBCUniversal family, an organization that believes in the promise and potential of our Team Members. Whether you work in Orlando, Hollywood, Osaka, or on the planning team for Beijing, you bring to life compelling entertainment and immersive experiences for our guests like no one else in the world. Our exciting growth demonstrates Comcast’s continued investment in our parks and resorts.

You can be proud, not only for our company, but that you are truly part of something bigger – just as I am proud to share this special bonus with you as we start the new year.

Thank you for everything you to do keep our guests entertained, and for making Universal Parks & Resorts the choice of millions worldwide!

Tom Williams
Chairman & CEO, Universal Parks & Resorts

Just imagine the impact of getting an extra $1,000. will make on these folks. I know 1K may not be much compared to the bonuses earned by the executive team, but it's a really great way to say thank you to the team.

I'm always proud to have been a part of the Universal family.

Great news... except that since it's from Comcast, all team members will have to take the day off work and be home between the hours of 8am and 5:30pm in order to receive their checks.

Many companies are doing these bonuses right now because the corporate tax rate is going from 30-39% to 21%, which will save some of these huge companies billions in taxes that they had allocated to pay next year. Comcast has about 150,000 employees, so this bonus will cost the company at most $150,000,000 which is not even a drop in the bucket.

Of course this is a good thing but lets put it in perspective, even Walmart is doing it. I would expect Disney to do it as well they just haven't gotten around to it yet.

$1000 will go a lot farther in Beijing.

From what I have heard "the_man" employees had to have 20s on the job at Wal*Mart to qualify for the bonus. From what I understand, the requirements at UO/ComCast made it so just about everyone qualified.

the_man ... you need to add 3 zeroes to your number. 150,000 employees at $1,000 is not $150,000, it is $150,000,000. $150 million dollars.

That is awesome! Sounds like a great company to work for.

Just a quick piece of feelgood headline grabbing to hide what's really happening.

(If you read the article rather than the headline, you'll see there's about another 500 more jobs on top of that. 1% of their workforce is getting the chop).
