Kennywood to get new coaster, close Turnpike

August 14, 2009 at 4:11 PM · I'm so done with Kennywood. :/ I like the new coasters...really.I do...but they keep gutting their classic rides every 2 years for corporate rides. Why not put the coaster elsewhere in the park, like replacing the swing shot or something faceless like that? Kennywood is a nostalgia park, not a six flags. But I guess now that's the idea.

Ghostwood Estates was a great idea. Closing the Goldrusher for it was not. I see a trend. There can be a balance here, but that's not what they are doing.

August 14, 2009 at 4:47 PM · Oni, am I missing something? Turnpike is a fairly standard car-on-a-rail attraction just like those found at the Six Flags parks you want Kennywood to avoid emulating. Removing it would make Kennywood LESS like Six Flags, not more. Regardless, the ride is not being removed permanently, it is just out of commission for a season or two until it is relocated elsewhere in the park.

Trust me, I understand wanting to hold on to the classic look-and-feel of Kennywood, but I see nothing bad about the addition of this new coaster. It will stimulate a nice bump up in attendance next year and help pave the way for the continued success of the park. In the end, continued success is what all fans want to see happen. Right? No one wants their favorite amusement park to become a museum.

August 14, 2009 at 5:46 PM · Yea! Something new at Kennywood. The question is where will the Turnpike go? Will Kennywood put the car ride in the new area that Kennywood has yet to build?
