2010 Best Theme Park Attraction nominee: Universal Studios Florida's Universal Horror Make-up Show
We continue our daily "off season" tributes to the best of the best in the theme park industry with a shout-out to the Universal Horror Make-up Show
at Universal Studios Florida, the 12th seed in the Best Live Show bracket of the 2010 Best Theme Park Attraction Tournament
The Make-up Show was one of the original attractions at Universal Studios Florida when the park opened in 1990. In fact, the show was one of the few of the park's attractions that you could count on opening every day during that difficult first summer. Over the years, Universal's tweaked the show, but it retains its aggressive, irreverent humor, making it a favorite with many visitors.
Sure, you'll learn a few insiders' tips about how prop masters and make-up artists create effects for the screen, but mostly you'll laugh at the hosts placing audience "volunteers" in a variety of, uh, uncomfortable positions.
Here's a YouTube clip that gives you a taste of the flavor of the show's humor:
What do you think of the Universal Horror Make-up Show? Tell us your thoughts, in the comments. Voting in the tournament begins in March.
Love the show. One of the most underrated attractions in Orlando. The humor keeps the show fresh and the inside look into movie make-up is very interesting as well. This show will more than likely get my vote in the first round.
One of the absolute gems in live entertainment. After so many corny, kid-friendly jokes at some of the other live theme park attractions, this feels like late night at the improv.
Very entertaining show, but Aladdin should easily win in the live show category. It's really no contest; the DCA show is the best anywhere.
I absolutely love this Show. There's more corn than a box of cereal but it runs along at a cracking pace. I'm always dubious about the veracity of the participating " audience member " but that doesn't much matter. It's always lively, funny and entertaining..........and we must have seen it at least 10 times.
Love this show, agreed with other comments on the more adult humour. Whoever the special effects guy is that has done it the past 2 years.. Hes excellent, very funny indeed.
Hooray for Bryce and Russell (the actors)!!! LOVE this show! Oh, and I can vouch for the authenticity of the audience volunteers... The rule is, pick the person in the audience who least looks like they want to volunteer, and extra points if you can find someone who speaks little or no English! The volunteers are not "plants."
Zachary and I have been to this show a number of times, and love it. I'm a make-up geek from way back, that's monster make-up of course.
