Ferrari World's grand opening: take two

November 4, 2010, 6:54 AM · One week after postponing its Grand Opening, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi debuted to the public today in the United Arab Emirates.

The world's largest indoor theme park, themed to the Italian sports car make, includes the world's fastest roller coaster, Formula Rossa, an Intamin launch coaster that blasts to a top speed of 149 miles per hour. The ride, which takes you outside the park and into the surrounding Arabian desert, is so fast that you have to wear goggles while riding, to protect your eyes from the blowing sand and searing heat.

Take a look at a few scenes from today's opening. Photos courtesy Ferrari World Abu Dhabi.

November 6, 2010 at 10:21 PM · Luckily has brakes! If not, looks as if could get airborne on the first hill! I would like a second launch in another straight, but I do appreciate the fact that instead of the silly speed braking rides in Cedar Point and N.J., this one actually has a track to run around... Not some silly circle!

The other parts of the ride look really slow, in contrast with the launch. But who knows? The Test Track feels really windy (in the track section) and it doesn't go faster than 70 or 65mph. One hundred plus in those open Formula seats must feel intense. (Especially with a face full of sand! LOL. Man, I'd really like to ride Formula Rossa!
