Universal Hollywood offers weeknight date-night discount deal

January 31, 2011, 1:31 PM · Universal Studios Hollywood is offering a new promotion to attract couples to the Hollywood CityWalk on weeknights.

The "Awesome Date" deal includes valet parking, dinner for two at participating CityWalk restaurants, and two movies tickets to the CityWalk theaters for $50. The dinners include a shared appetizer and two entrees selected from a special menu, plus soft drinks, coffee or tea. Participating restaurants include the Hard Rock Cafe, Wolfgang Puck Bistro, Buca di Beppo and Karl Strauss Brewing Company, plus five others. (You can see what menu items are included by clicking the restaurant logos on the offer's website.)

Given that valet parking by itself will set you back $25 and adult movie tickets are $12 each, the deal essentially gets you dinner for free. (If you want to see a 3D movie, there's a $10 upcharge - $5 per person - for that.) The deal's good Monday through Thursdays.

January 31, 2011 at 6:29 PM · Universal Orlando has a similar deal already, actually. Movie and Meal Deal, I think is what they call it. You get vouchers for two meals at certain Citywalk restaurants and two vouchers for movie tickets, with 3D and/or IMAX being an upcharge. The one thing it doesn't include? Parking, at all.

I guess Orlando wants to keep it's guests from the park at night rather than draw locals? Or maybe they figure half the town already has an annual pass including free parking anyway?

January 31, 2011 at 7:47 PM · Didn't Universal Orlando used to offer free parking after a certain time of day on weeknights?
January 31, 2011 at 9:18 PM · Sounds nice!
January 31, 2011 at 10:35 PM · @Robert Universal used to offer free parking after 6pm up until I think it was Mardi Gras last year or HHN two years ago when they started charging $3 for after 6pm parking. I believe it is still the same right now. Don't quote me on that though. Might only be like that for busy times like special events or holidays and weekends.

@Hermione Yes I am aware of that deal but the Hollywood version sounds much better. I mean come one, taking someone on a date and just dropping the car of at Valet, can't beat that for parking. So I think Universal Orlando should consider that as well. Would make it a lot more attractive to local crowds. And hey in comparison I'd actually consider that deal over the current one.

January 31, 2011 at 11:13 PM · Yeah, parking is $3 after 6 and free after 10, except when the parks are open until 10 (aka july and december) then they push both back a few hours.
February 1, 2011 at 11:39 AM · Plus, the valet drop-offs at Hollywood are much closer to the park, restaurants and shopping than the valet drop-off in Orlando, unless they've moved it in Orlando since I was there last. No long walk over that bridge.
