Opening ceremonies set for Universal Studios Singapore

May 24, 2011, 11:40 AM · Anyone going to be in Singapore this weekend?

If so, the place to be will be the official grand opening of Universal Studios Singapore, happening this Saturday at Resorts World at Sentosa.

Jet Li Paula Abdul

The special guests for the opening will include Jet Li and Paula Abdul, along with American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino contestant Kimberly Caldwell (*Update: Caldwell is a late replacement for Barrino), actress Maggie Cheung, and Chinese actress/singer Vicki Zhao Wei.

But the big attraction for theme park fans will be the official opening of Madagascar: A Crate Adventure, along with the rest of the rides at the park. (Don't expect the eagerly-awaited new Transformers ride, though. The earliest we expect to see that next-generation 3-D motion ride is by the end of the year.)

Universal Studios Singapore promises photos and news from the opening ceremonies on its Facebook page. Trip reports and attraction reviews from your visit to Universal Studios Singapore are welcomed here on Theme Park Insider, too, of course.

Update: You can watch a live stream of the red carpet arrivals at www.rwsentosa.com/grandopening at 7:45am ET on Friday, May 27 and the grand opening ceremonies at 10pm ET that night. (Switch the AM to PM and vice versa for local Singapore time, which is 12 hours ahead of New York/Orlando.)

May 24, 2011 at 11:37 PM · Oh, yeah, it has been. But not with an "official" opening yet, making this possibly the longest "soft opening" in the history of theme parks.
