Let's take a look at what's under construction for 2012 at top theme parks

October 26, 2011, 2:44 PM · May I ask a favor? I'd like the theme park employees and other industry insiders who read the site to take a look at our What's Under Construction at Top Theme Parks page. (Okay, I want everyone to take a look at the page, too - let's be honest.) But I am hoping that folks in the know can help us keep the page up to date by letting me know about any major new upcoming attractions we haven't listed there yet. We've got plenty, but I want to make sure we have them all.

Cars Land
Radiator Springs Racers is the highlight of Cars Land, under construction at Disney California Adventure

I just added the new 255-foot B&M Mega Coaster for Spain's Port Aventura, which will debut next year. And we have an entry for the new Avatar land at Disney's Animal Kingdom, even though we don't yet have any idea what that will be. (Frankly, I don't know that Disney knows for certain, either.) Check out the other listings on the page and if you can't find a link for something you know will happen, please let me know. (Also, if there's ever anything on that page that has opened already or been cancelled, let me know that, as well.)

Thanks.

October 26, 2011 at 3:30 PM · Personally, I'm not all that impressed with carsland. A flying saucer redo, a Test Track with a new theme, and the mater ride doesn't sound like that much quality. On the other hand, I am apparently in minority when i say I love the Avatar Land concept. I think great rides will come from it.

P.S. Is it free to register? I'm going to Orlando for a week in a few days, and I want to post a trip report. However, if it costs money I won't bother.

October 26, 2011 at 6:14 PM · Hi
I have some theme park news from over at Hong Kong Disneyland. Over the next two years, they will add three new lands. Toy Story Land, Grizzly Gulch, and Mystic Point. Toy Story Land will feature rides for kids and RC Racer Coaster. The land is based after Toy Story. Grizzly Gulch will feature a Vekoma manufactured coaster. It is a ride thats takes you through an abandoned mine, it takes you backwards when the chainlift breaks in the ride, the launchs the train out of an exploding tunnel. Mystic Point features a haunted mansion related ride called Mystic Manor, it has no track so the vehicles freely roams through the house.
More information on Screamscape.

Six Flags New England will be opening Goliath, which is Deja Vu relocated from Six Flags Magic Mountain. Also, both Six Flags Great Adventure and Six Flags Fiesta Texas will be adding Sky Screamer, similar to the ride installed at Six Flags St. Louis this year (I believe SFGAdv's is 240 ft and SFFT's is 200 ft, but I'm not 100% sure). Also, Carowinds is getting a Windseeker just like Kings Dominion.

It's nice to have a list of all the upcoming attractions in one place. Most of the lists I've found elsewhere only list coasters, or only are for specific park chains.

October 27, 2011 at 7:48 AM · Casa Magnetica at SFoT is listed on the compilation page and on its specific page as rumored to reopen in 2011. It did reopen in 2011 - temporarily. For SFoT's 50th anniversary they did something special every day for 50 days including reopening this classic attraction. In fact, Casa Magentica was open when I was there for Coaster Con XXXIV in June of this year and the park officials we met with made a point of recommending we see it. It was great to be able to see this classic. The downside: the attraction has perhaps the lowest guest capacity per hour I've ever seen in an amusement park and takes 2 (or more) staff to run. I suspect they'll still open it for special events from time to time, but it is unlikely to ever be a full time attraction again.
