Universal Orlando Surveys Ticket Options and House Concepts for Halloween Horror Nights

February 3, 2015, 12:35 PM · A reader forwarded an email survey he'd been asked to complete by Universal Orlando Resort, asking about ticket options for this year's Halloween Horror Nights.

The survey tests some Express Pass-style "Featured Content" tickets for select houses during the event. And yes, the survey also reveals several brands as options for this year's HHN, including American Horror Story, The Walking Dead, Insidious, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Scream, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

What we don't know, of course, is what's really being tested in this survey, and what are red herrings to obscure the real test variables. It's possible that Universal is testing various price points and ticket options for the event. It's also possible that Universal is just trying to gauge visitors' perceived value of the various horror brands, and that not all listed brands will be included in this year's event. Universal asked survey participants not to share the survey, so I won't reveal my snitch source. But I wouldn't put it past Universal just to troll us with a fake survey, knowing fans would republish it anyway. Which is a long way to get to: Take all of this with a block-sized grain of salt.

Still, it's interesting. Take a look:

February 4, 2015 at 12:14 AM · Personally, I would prefer less horror "brands" and lower prices. Ticket prices are inflated because of all the horror franchises, but the quality of the mazes really depends on execution and smart concepts, not big names.

Also, the big names mean big crowds, and the most frightening things are the lineups for the mazes.
