Fire Strikes Near Disneyland's Small World

February 28, 2015, 11:55 PM · A fire engulfed a tree next to the It's a Small World ride at Disneyland after the nightly fireworks this evening.

Here is a video. Local firefighters extinguished the fire within 30 minutes, according to visitors in the park. The damage appeared to be confined to a tree next to the ride, as well as some of the construction tarp in front of the ride. (The Small World facade is undergoing refurbishment and has been covered by a construction tarp.)

Last November, fireworks in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World sparked a fire on the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train attraction. In both cases, no injuries were reported. The Mine Train reopened later that evening, though Small World remains closed for the time being. The local ABC affiliate is reporting that the ride is expected to reopen later this evening, however.

Update: (March 2) Although the fire started shortly after the fireworks, reports are coming out on Twitter that the cause might have been electrical, resulting from contractors working on the facade.

March 1, 2015 at 7:21 AM · Wow. In our last trip to Disney World, some spent fireworks were landing near us back in Fantasyland. I wondered if there was a chance of a fire. I'm glad there were no injuries.
March 1, 2015 at 8:53 AM · I hope they don't make this into a - safety conscious thing.
Fireworks are the best part.
Hope disney don't decide to tone back the fireworks. It would be a shame.
March 1, 2015 at 2:14 PM · I wasn't in Anaheim last night, but the weather throughout Southern California was quite a bit less tranquil than usual yesterday, with measurable winds and rain. So things were blowing around more than normal, which might have contributed to this situation.
March 1, 2015 at 4:41 PM · Sounds like a plausible situation to me. 2 of the 3 days I went to Disneyland, the fireworks were cancelled due to heavy winds (fortunately, those were the days we set aside for Fantasmic and World of Color).
March 2, 2015 at 12:14 AM · We were there yesterday and today, the fireworks were cancelled today though, with considerably less wind than yesterday. Maybe still trying to isolate what happened
March 4, 2015 at 4:06 PM · I'm just glad that no one got hurt
