June 25, 2015, 2:26 PM · Universal Studios Hollywood has hit parking capacity and closed its filled garages to incoming vehicles.

Looks like this crew remains wildly popular with LA-area fans.

A Universal spokesperson emailed us, "The parking structures at Universal CityWalk are currently closed as parking has reached capacity. Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal CityWalk remain open to all guests accessing the property via public transportation, pedestrian walkways and taxis. We expect the parking structures to open later this afternoon. Due to popular demand, Universal Studios Hollywood has extended hours to 10pm on Thursday, June 25 and Friday, June 26 and will open at 8am on Friday, June 26. The Studio Tour, however, will open at 7am to accommodate guests for the all-new 'Fast & Furious-Supercharged' thrill ride."

Today was the heavily-promoted first day for the new Fast & Furious Supercharged encounter on the park's Studio Tour ride. Fast & Furious is Universal Studios' highest-grossing franchise of all time, with the latest installment earning more than $1.5 billion in global box office so far this year.

Universal will open its version of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter next spring, the largest project so far in its billion-dollar-plus "Evolution" makeover of the property. Part of that development is two massive new parking garages on the east side of Universal Studios Boulevard, on the far end of CityWalk from the theme park. Those garages will be completed later this year.

Have you been to Universal today? How were the crowds?

June 25, 2015 at 8:41 PM · If USH can't even handle crowds for a B-level attraction like F&F what's it going to be like when Potter opens next year? Will the Potter expansion really be able to accommodate all the guests who are expected to fill those new parking garages?

June 25, 2015 at 10:06 PM · Wow, I knew F&F was popular but I didn't expect this. I guess sneaking in for a quick tour ride this summer is probably not gonna happen. Congrats to the Uni team.
June 26, 2015 at 6:30 AM · Wait, these are the crowds for F&F?! Ok, it's settled, I shall avoid the L.A. area at all costs next year. I'm too scared to what the crowds are gonna be like
June 26, 2015 at 7:53 AM · The way FFS (Fast and Furious Supercharged) is advertised, it looks like a stand alone ride similar to transformers. They hide away the fact that its part of the studio tour, and during a trailer, it shows people holding handlebars and experiencing what seems to be a very intense ride. I think this "false advertisement" may have something to do with the large crowds.
June 26, 2015 at 11:44 AM · I was there last night and it was crazy. I waited 20 minutes in the Gate A line. The line for Gate A went all the way over the bridge and past the studio tour archway. Also F&F might have broken down because our tram waited 20 minutes to get in to F&F.
June 26, 2015 at 2:06 PM · The 101 freeway was jammed yesterday leading to the Lankershim exit, so I can completely see the garages being closed. The attraction has been receiving press from the local news.

In terms of potter, there is currently construction going on in the surrounding are for parking & traffic (It was reported that the Barham exit will be closing & traffic will be rerouted)

So there are plans in place, but I'm sure they weren't expecting these sort of traffic issues this early.

June 27, 2015 at 3:35 PM · I still think Universal Hollywood people running the garages and trams and gates are oblivious to what the WWoHP crowds will be like. The Universal Orlando garages opened as early as 4 AM when WWoHP started. I hope USH has the super early opening plans figured out. The F&F add-on to the tram tour is a mere early warning of what is to come.
