Thursday round-up: Will Disney World make its own version of Uber?

July 7, 2016, 8:31 PM · Walt Disney World is looking to draw some extra attention to its new Magic Kingdom stage show, with a live webcast on Monday.

The Disney Parks Blog will webcast the new "Mickey's Royal Friendship Faire" show starting a 4:10 pm ET on Monday, July 11. The livestream will be available in a blog post to be published at that time on the Disney Parks Blog homepage. "Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire" debuted last month and offers a medley of Disney tunes and toons — both classic and contemporary. The show plays several times daily on the Cinderella Castle stage in the Magic Kingdom.

A Disney World guest survey is fueling talk that the resort is considering implementing its own Uber-style car service on property. It'd be a way to avoid some of the notoriously long waits for bus service back to your hotel... for a price, of course.

Now if Disney really wanted to make this like Uber, it'd allow other Disney guests to sign up as drivers to work off the cost of their vacations. Alas.

July 7, 2016 at 9:02 PM · Well, haven't they sort of been trying to do that with the busses the past few years? GPS and central dispatch points so they can keep up with/attempt to anticipate demand? Glitchy during slow periods but seemed to work well last time I was there.
July 8, 2016 at 6:43 AM · Has anyone else noticed how Disney surveys never ask how the guest's experience can be improved?

Subtext of every Disney survey: "How can we squeeze more pennies out of you?"

July 8, 2016 at 9:31 AM · Just to clarify: The survey question is about direct transportation between two Disney resorts. With a few exceptions, the only way to travel between resorts involves a transfer at a theme park or Disney Springs.

This concept would not add any new ways to get to/from theme parks from Disney resorts.

July 8, 2016 at 10:52 AM · I think this is for restaurant reservations at other hotels. Disney is missing out on money people use on taxi fare. I never rely on buses anymore for hotel breakfast meals. Did the mk bus from Coronado and had to get to poly and we were late and it ruined the rest of schedule for the day. Last two disney visits did taxi to hotels for breakfast. It was well worth the money and got extra sleep and enjoyed my visit a lot more.
July 8, 2016 at 11:04 AM · I don't see a problem with Disney offering its own paid point to point transportation as long as it in now way restricts access to any guest area on property for 3rd party drivers such as Uber and Lyft.

From what I recall from taxis in the past, they are grossly overcharged in the Disney World area. Why not offer some kind of Disney taxi service?

July 11, 2016 at 11:17 AM · I asked a cab driver why taxis are so expensive at Disney World. He told me that cab drivers would charge much lower rates, but Disney hits them with large fees to access their facilities.
