News update: Threat at Six Flags America, new Disneyland hotel approved

July 13, 2016, 8:52 PM · Six Flags America, located in Maryland just outside Washington DC, didn't open until about 3pm today after a park supervisor received a bomb threat before the park opened this morning. Six Flags delayed the opening to allow authorities to search the park. They found nothing more suspicious than a couple of unattended backpacks (with no explosives). After sounding an all-clear, the park opened to visitors after several hours' delay.

The Anaheim City Council this morning voted to award millions of dollars in bed tax rebates to the Disneyland Resort to support its construction of the resort's proposed fourth hotel. Disney's plans call for a 700-room hotel on the site of the current Downtown Disney parking lot. The deal with the city is for luxury hotels, so the new facility must receive a four diamond rating from AAA, just as the Disney's Grand California Hotel now enjoys.

Disney World's next live webcast will be of the new Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular fireworks show at Disney's Hollywood Studios. The webcast will be shown on the front page of the Disney Parks blog on Monday, July 18 at 9:20 pm ET.
