Behold, the Spaceship Earth cupcake

September 30, 2017, 10:13 AM · I usually ignore Walt Disney World's special-event cupcake fetish, but, yeah, y'all got me with this one.

Yes, that is a Spaceship Earth cupcake, a yellow cupcake with strawberry pastry cream filling, topped with a dome of cake covered in silver fondant, decorated to look like Epcot's iconic geodesic sphere. (This is one is just a dome, of course.) It's one of the speciality food items that Disney is rolling out for Epcot's 35 anniversary tomorrow.

The Spaceship Earth cupcake will be available at the Fountain View (aka the Starbucks) in Future World. Other 35th anniversary food include a Viking cupcake (with two little pastry horns) in the Norway pavilion and a Flower Pot cupcake at Sunshine Seasons.

I will be in Orlando for the Epcot anniversary celebration tomorrow, so watch Theme Park Insider for my full report, including some thoughts on the past, present, and future direction of Disney's most atypical theme park.

September 30, 2017 at 4:55 PM · A tad annoyed this is all we get for a big anniversary. But man, not even a cupcake fan but I want this.
September 30, 2017 at 7:48 PM · As much as it has been joked that Spaceship Earth looks like a golf ball, that cupcake really does look like one.
September 30, 2017 at 8:30 PM · Love it.
September 30, 2017 at 11:03 PM · Hideously ugly.
October 1, 2017 at 1:35 PM · This really showcases how Disney can take something very gimmicky and make it into something of art. This is the best looking cupcake I have seen at any Disney park. Just enough color, but keeping it simple. It really also sums up EPCOT: the world! I want it and I know you all want it!

October 2, 2017 at 6:21 AM · Uh, no. That thing is totally uninteresting. Hopefully it tastes better than it looks.
