Tournament 2018: What's the best Disney theme park in Asia?

March 17, 2018, 10:59 AM · We are into the second round of the 2018 Theme Park Insider Tournament, and today we are voting to decide the best Disney theme park in Asia.

In the first round, Tokyo DisneySea defeated Tokyo Disneyland and Shanghai Disneyland beat Hong Kong Disneyland. The winner of today's vote advances to the all-Asia regional final on March 25, to face the winner of the vote between Universal Studios Japan and Everland.

As always, we invite you to rate and review the attractions and restaurants at the parks we cover here on Theme Park Insider.

A visit to these parks is not impossible for American visitors, though it can require a sharp eye on airfares if you need a deal. Check out our advice on planning trips to these parks.

Tomorrow, the second round continued with Alton Towers vs. PortAventura in the Europe regional semifinal.

DisneySea is a more established, full day experience. Shanghai Disneyland still needs quite a bit more. More shows, rides, etc. in truth, it could stand another land or two with larger experiences than what the Toy Story Land is bringing.

Even though I’ve never been to either, I voted for Shanghai Disneyland. Both are amazing parks, and DisneySea maybe the most beautiful Disney park ever created. But from the videos of attractions from both parks, Shanghai looks like it has better attractions overall. DisneySea has some of the most unique and best attractions of any theme park anywhere. But to me it seems like Shanghai is a more complete experience. Disney Sea is the best second gate in the world, but it still can’t compare to a park that that’s a nearly perfected version of the original Disneyland.

I have been to both, and voted for TDS although Shanghai has some spectacular attractions (Pirates made a boatload of people gasp, and I could ride TRON all day.) However, I think Shanghai has not grown into its space yet, while TDS is fabulously quirky and you can lose yourself all over it all day (and I totally have). Far more than a second gate.

DisneySeas is amazing but thew a vote to Shanghai just for Tron and their great version of Pirates.

If we were to compare all the 12 Disney parks in the world, and only Disney parks, based on attraction merits, pound for pound, these 2 parks will easily take the top 2 positions. Just simply look at Disneysea's Journey to The Centre of the Earth or Shanghai's Pirates!

Been to both and IMO its not even close. Shanghai Disneyland doesn't really offer anything new or exceptional except for one outstanding attraction and one pretty good one. That's it. The overall experience, including the atmosphere, crowds and service is just better at TDS and the Tokyo Disneyland Resort.

Also been to both and i'm going with Shanghai for the exact opposite reason - Disney Sea is a nice park but has too many clones for my liking. Tower of Terror: ridden it a million times in Florida, California, and Paris (I know the theming is different but still it's not that much different of a ride). Raging Spirits - rode it at DLRP and its not any good. Soarin - rode it a million times between Florida and California. Toy Story Mania - same deal. Fantasmic - I know its a bit different but still this is the worst version IMO. The main flagship attraction in the park is short, underwhelming, and over rated, and the Sinbad dark ride is kind of a joke.

Meanwhile SDL has enough fantastic attractions that are not at any other parks. Tron (for now), Pirates, the Pirates stunt show, Tarzan, Camp Discovery, Roaring Rapids, and it has the best castle. Plus it has a parade and firework show.

Disney Sea is the winner here! Haven't been to Shanghai but I absolutely loved Disney Sea. The park is large and each area is well developed and beautifully themed. Journey ttcot Earth is an amazing attraction and worthy of its praise. The other attractions are great assets as well. It is the best Disney park I've been to (California, Florida, Tokyo)

I haven't been to any of the Asian parks yet. But if TPI wants to sponsor me on an all expenses paid trip to those parks, I'll be happy to vote next year...

Also been to both and think DisneySea is the winner. Journey to the Center of the Earth is my top attraction of all Disney Parks. 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea is pretty cool too. Loved Sinbad with the original song by Alan Menken. Best version of the TOT. Add in the amazing attention to detail, erupting volcano, etc. Shanghai Pirates is lauded as amazing but relies on too many screens. I prefer animatronics any day.
