All aboard the 2019 Hype Train for Disneyland's Mickey fest

December 21, 2018, 10:36 AM · Continuing our look at 10 anticipated new attractions in 2019, here's one you won't have to wait for too long — Disneyland's tribute to the Mouse who started it all.

Disneyland is celebrating Mickey Mouse's 90th birthday with "Get Your Ears On – A Mickey and Minnie Celebration," which kicks off next month. The party gets started on January 18 with the debut of Mickey's Mix Magic — a new nighttime show featuring lasers, projection mapping, and fireworks (on select evenings), all celebrating Mickey's 90 years.

Mickey's Mix Magic

Disney established the template for these shows with its Diamond Celebration show, Disneyland Forever, then following that with last summer's Pixar-themed Together Forever.

With Mickey's Mix Magic, the fireworks won't run every evening, leaving the projections and lasers to carry the musical show on those evenings.

Also as part of the celebration, Mickey's Soundsational Parade will return on January 25, featuring an all-new Mickey Mouse float leading the way. Here's a look back at the original debut of the parade, back in 2011.

Get Your Ears On – A Mickey and Minnie Celebration also will include as-yet-unannounced special food and merchandise offerings at the resort.

Tomorrow: We race up the 5 for our next pick.

I was gong to write something sarcastic, but then I thought about it, and really I'm totally fine with them creating shows that cater to a demographic that I don't fit into. Anything that entertains large crowds of people and temporarily thins out the queues to popular attractions is A-OK with me!

I do find it a bit curious that this show is debuting exactly 2 months after Mickey's 90th Birthday. Was this strategic to add something new after the holiday hoards disperse, or was it supposed to debut in November, and got pushed back for one reason or another?

I suspect that the need for an AP filler in the first half of the year - before Galaxy’s Edge - came first, then they chose the theme second.

I've noticed that Mickey's Mix Magic still doesn't show on the Disneyland.com January schedule. With it being approximately 3 weeks until the "official" opening on January 18 I would have thought it would be on the schedule. @Robert, do you have any reason to think it might not actually kickoff that day as was previously announced?
