It's official, finally: World of Color is coming back

February 11, 2019, 4:57 PM · The Disneyland Resort has confirmed that the World of Color show will return to Disney California Adventure next week.

The popular nighttime spectacular closed without warning last April, following reports of damage to the underwater platform that supports the fountains, lights, and water-mist projection screens used in the show. Repairs took months, but now appear to be at least close to complete. The show is now planned to resume on Saturday, February 23.

World of Color is coming back initially on a "test and adjust" basis, according to Disneyland officials. And this will be the classic version of the show, without any changes in content — though, of course, segments and features might be, well, tested and adjusted for a while, as they said.

Since the show has been down, Disney has completed and opened the Pixar Pier retheme of most of the former Paradise Pier land behind the lagoon where Disney runs World of Color. In the past, the Mickey's Fun Wheel - now the Pixar Pal-A-Round - and California Sceamin' - now the Incredicoaster - closed during World of Color performances. However, it's long been suggested inside the company that Disney finds a way to at least keep the roller coaster operating during the show, to help with park capacity. We'll see if anything changes after the show returns.

Disneyland is now accepting reservations for World of Color dining packages starting February 23, though the show has yet to reappear on the Disneyland website or app show schedules.

Fans can otherwise get reserved viewing areas for the show by picking up a Fastpass for it near the Grizzly River Run on the day of the show. Getting a World of Color Fastpass does not affect your ability to get other Fastpasses in the park.

Good to have it back. Now, if we could get the Paint the Night parade back, I'd be over the moon. We are going in May on what could possibly be my mother's last time with me in Disney and she LOVES parades. I've seen it myself, but she never has. I'd love to watch it with her. She was the type to sit down hours before each parade and save our spots in the hot sun while we rode rides. Good memories!

Unfortunately, DCA can't run a parade and a food festival at the same time, given where it's been siting the food booths along its parade route. But I think the park may need Paint the Night along with WoC this summer to help pull crowds turned away from Disneyland after Galaxy's Edge opens.
