Disney World brings a bit of Bollywood to Animal Kingdom

March 1, 2019, 12:29 PM · Growing up in the American Midwest, I knew exactly nothing about Bollywood, despite the Indian movie industry being perhaps the world's most popular form of commercial entertainment. But when I had the opportunity to visit Bollywood Parks in Dubai in 2016, I started studying up.

And I feel in love with the spectacle, action, spontaneous dance numbers, and often wry humor in Bollywood films. So I am thrilled to see that Walt Disney World is bringing a taste of Bollywood to Disney's Animal Kingdom, with a new street show in the Asia section of the park.

Bollywood Beats will start Sunday, March 3, in the Anandapur village and play several times daily. "From classical Indian rhythms of Kathak to the proud folk style of Bhangra to modern Bollywood popular dance, the performers of Bollywood Beats have something for every dance lover to enjoy in this spirited interactive performance," Disney said in its press release.

The show joins the Hakuna Matata Time Dance Party on the Discovery Island Stage as new entertainment this year in Disney's Animal Kingdom, which will welcome a new nighttime projection show on The Tree of Life this summer to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Disney's The Lion King.
