Latest news industry layoff hits Disney's Buena Vista Street

July 11, 2019, 5:00 PM · The Disneyland Resort is closing the Newsies-inspired Red Car Trolley News Boys show at Disney California Adventure. The final performances will play on July 23.

One of the park atmosphere acts that debuted with Buena Vista Street in 2012, the Red Car Trolley News Boys lost their Red Car Trolley months ago when Disney took that attraction out of service due to the Marvel Land construction on the old A Bug's Land site claiming its Hollywood Land terminus. Without the Red Car that served as the "stage" for the show, the singing News Boys couldn't command the attention that did before... when the trolley rolled through Carthay Circle carrying the singers and a waving Mickey Mouse in his News Boy outfit.

Of course, with attendance sagging around the resort, that also made it easy for Disneyland to cut a few labor hours by closing the show, too.

But c'mon, Disney, haven't enough people already lost their jobs in the newspaper industry already? Now we can't even have pretend newspaper employees in a theme park, either?

At least the song from the show is on Spotify and other streaming services:

What if Iger took a part of the $65.6 Million he got last year and paid these peoples wages for a year. Of all Disneyland castmembers who's hours are cut or terminated, so they can get by until this mess management made (not the castmembers) is sorted out.
Offering less is never the solution if you want to bring people back.

That's unfortunate. This was one of the best atmosphere and entertainment pieces in DCA. Hopefully it will return at some point in the future after Marvel Land is completed and if/when crowd levels bump back up.
