Published: May 16, 2009 at 10:18 PMI'll never forget my first ride on Magnum. At the time it opened, there was nothing like it. Here's a little factoid for you...Magnum's opening year (1989) brought Cedar Point a near 20 percent attendance increase. The cost to get in that year? $18.50. Thanks to Maggie, we now live in a world where 200+ ft coasters are common.
I rode for the first time during it's opening season. I was 8 years old, and it was an awakening. I would say that Magnum was the ride that got me hooked. Hooked on roller coasters, hooked on Cedar Point, and hooked on amusement/theme parks.
Here's to a happy birthday for Magnum.

The only rides I saw with problems were Top Thrill, which is standard, or so I've experienced, and then Millennium in the evening, since the train was stopped going up the hill from about 7:30 on, I think. Other than that, all the rides I saw were still running. Except for when it was raining. Maybe you went to the rides at different times than I did.
My experience yesterday was that the park was quite busy, with many school groups there for Music in the Park, a music competition they have every opening weekend. Most rides, even the smaller ones, had lines at least a half hour long. So not really the best day to be at the park. Add in the rain - well, it was still fun overall! :)

Also as you said Millennium and Top Thrill had problems, Top Thrill having the most. I got in line for Top Thrill at 9:30, with the 2 hour wait which was starting at the ramp(which, by the way at the ramp is normally a 10 minute wait). Normally, I would pass this up, but this was my best chance to get a roll back! So we waited and waited but the only time we moved up in line was when someone got out of it. At about 11:30, the ride op told us that TTD would be closing due to weather conditions(which was a lie because the skies were clear and the winds were calm at the time) I don't blame them though because at the rate they were moving, we honestly could of been there another 2-3 hours. After they told us the ride would be closing (and everyone in line got done cussing them out) they told us they would write our names down and next time we visited the park we would get front of the line access to the ride. Also, as you said, they had the Music in The Parks there, and I have never been in line with so many annoying people. By the way, I am the same age as most of those kids. I was very annoyed by them.
Published: May 19, 2009 at 6:40 AMThe Magnum is in a class all by itself. Arrow broke the mold when this Coaster was built. It will always be in my top 5, and I am sure it is in everyone's top lists. Its amazing at night, or Day, Ride it and watch out for the bumps. Kevin Aucoin
