Published: April 6, 2010 at 2:59 PMIt's the Disneyland Monte Cristo.
When you think about it, isn't a Monte Cristo essentially a funnel cake stuffed with meat and cheese?
Published: April 6, 2010 at 3:18 PMthe first bite of a monte cristo is the funk, every other bite is disgusting. All that batter and ham and cheese, es mucho!(its to much)
Published: April 6, 2010 at 3:39 PMYeah, the first bite is always the best. Amazing even. I went to a place that served theirs with Rasberry Jam. Oh my...But yeah, after that, it's just too much.
Looking forward to our Disney trip in June and some good eats!
Published: April 6, 2010 at 4:46 PMOh no, a good Monte Cristo is a jewel, a gastronomic celebration. But the *best* is made in a little diner in Socorro, NM called El Camino. Tasty pork, just the right amount of cheese, and naturally, *green chile.*
Published: April 6, 2010 at 4:47 PMMmmm....Monte Cristo!! It's amazing that all of the places I've had a version of that sandwich (at least 20) cannot hold a candle to Blue Bayou's version.
Published: April 6, 2010 at 5:14 PMHmmm... to anyone that visits San Diego, I'd say try the Monte Cristo at Studio Diner. It's delicious (cheaper and better than Disneyland's IMHO) and can be ordered 24 hours a day!
I still can't say I'm impressed with the quality of food and service at the Blue Bayou in Disneyland. The atmosphere is impossible to recreate, but I've always felt that the service is rushing us out... and the food is good, but not spectacular especially for how much you pay. Just my two cents.
Published: April 6, 2010 at 5:30 PMAnthony, they used to sell a Monte Cristo at the Columbia Harbor House in the Magic Kingdom. I wanna say they took it off the menu maybe 15 - 20 years ago.
Been boycotting the place ever since.
Published: April 6, 2010 at 6:24 PMOh no, my favorite WDW Place is under fire!!!
I thought it was a Monte Cristo sandwich from Disneyland. I guess I gotta wait til May to try one!
Published: April 6, 2010 at 8:15 PMThe one pictured is from the Blue Bayou at Disnelyand... it is yet another reason why DL's Pirates is so much better than the one in Orlando.
You can also go across the way and get the same sandwich at Cafe Orleans.... it is about $3.00 cheaper and tastes just as good. And get some pommes frites while you are at it!
Published: April 7, 2010 at 7:56 AMI could use some Udderly Blue ice cream from Holiday World about now.
Published: April 7, 2010 at 7:53 PMMakes so much sense that a man of your intelligence would go to Cafe Orleans, Robert! If you can't get a seat at the Bayou, get the next best thing AND save a few bucks! Who needs the sides anyway? Buttered potatoes and buttered veggies to go with your artery clogging sandwich is probably not such a great idea anyway!
And yet, those Cafe Orleans pommes frites are calling out to me.....
