As someone who has never seen star wars [it's on my to do list], I always liked that the original ride didn't require prior knowledge of the characters/plots to be enjoyable and understandable. is that still the case or are there things you just won't get/understand without seeing the movies?

just got back from there and saw George Lucas make the speech and walk with some of the stars towards the ride...extremly crowded, but, everything looks just great. hint, anyone going the rest of the weekend which i am doing on sunday, get there early.

I've heard a lot of details but I'm wonder if anyone can tell me if they still use the Start Tours jingle, the chime thing? It's small, but that was one of my favorite elements of the old version.

I had the privilege of getting to DHS at 7:30 this morning and I'm elated getting there that early paid off!!! I got a fastpass for Star Tours for 2:35 and that time frame was awesome. Because I could relax after getting the fastpass, I went and did the entire park, including shows before my 2:35 awesomeness time. The key was getting there early!! The other rides wait times that early: Toy Story-5 minutes(and that's never been like that before) Tower of terror was a walk on(did it twice) and Rock n rollercoaster was 10 minutes, etc...

I got to see George Lucas and the ride itself was spectacular, phenominal and every other beyond awesome word you can think of. The graphics were astonishing and I even loved the 3D glasses. On my ride we did pod racing in Tatooine and flew with the millenium falcon then headed to land in Coruscant.

Yes, the park was packed, but that is to be expected. But, can you explain how at one point in the day while walking past Star Tours the wait time was listed as 45 minutes? When earlier it was at 160 and the queue was extended back almost to the entrance of the light, Motor, action stunt show.

All in all, great day! and as a passholder I will be getting on Star Tours all the time! I hope that every fellow themepark insider.com readers have the same great experience that I did today. May the force with all of you.

I got to ride twice during soft opening periods this week- 5/17 and 5/19! The ride was GREAT. I had never done the previous version, so I can't compare....but loads of fun. Part of the fun for me was seeing many of the diehards camped out all week, waiting for soft opening periods (or "flight testing", as the signs stated). When I rode on 5/19, I was in front of three young men who were taking their 35th, 36th, and 37th tours! And there was actually one land that one of them hadn't seen yet on any of his previous tours- so the randomization is really there, it's different every time....
