As a former Skipper, you wont believe the complaints if we don't use the gun. About 98% of the skippers don't aim at the hippos, and we are told not to. However, the scene was and plays that the hippos are charging the boat and we, the boat and skipper, but do something to save our lives.

Yes, skippers used to shoot the hippos, but not anymore. I don't think we should, but I think we should keep the gun.

I say reburbish those hippos! That 70's technology has passed it's prime. Last time I went on the Jungle Cruise, I just kept thinking, "Yikes.. you'd think with all the money Disneyland has, they would take better care of their props and animatronics".
