Published: June 12, 2013 at 11:04 AMThanks for the review Robert. I've often considered eating at Cookes since it's in a bit of a chokepoint in DTD, but I've never ventured in. I'll give them a shot the next time I'm in town since I love a great savory pie.
Published: June 12, 2013 at 12:00 PMI have never eaten here, but I am going to now that you recommended it. I LOVE chicken pot pies. They are my favorite. When I eat there I am going to specifically tell them that Robert Niles recommended it so he gets credit for the sale.
Published: June 12, 2013 at 3:47 PMI ate their twice for a simple fish and chips. First time was just week after it opened. We got a decent portion and it was really good. The second time, a few years later, we got the same and it was terrible. The portion was very small, the batter around the fish much to think and the service was bad and the place was filthy with no one in sight to clean stuff up. Never been there again.
Published: June 12, 2013 at 4:32 PMCookes is a must-do for us every trip. We always get the fish and chips and love it. We took my parents last year and they were less than impressed. I would love to try the pies, but it would be difficult for me to go in and not order the usual. Love it!
Published: June 13, 2013 at 7:31 AMMy favorite - and usually the only place - I eat at Downtown Disney. Years ago they did offer a fish pie which I remember was filled with un-battered whitefish (probably the same as the fish and chips); mushrooms, carrots and peas. It was fantastic. Two years ago I was in Orlando and had been looking forward to the fish pie, but it was gone. I was happy with the chicken, but it wasn't the same as the fish.
I did notice the quality of service and cleanliness of the area wasn't the same as it was many years ago, though.
