Well, there goes my nice peaceful after Labor Day trips. This has been in the works for a while now. Nothing like the community moving to help out the local cash cow.

Virginia did the same thing several years ago - push back the start of schools until after Labor Day. That presented problems with theme park employment, as colleges and universities continued to begin in late August. As local theme parks utilize college students as labor, we often see a severe lack of personnel during the last two weeks of August and early September.

When I was in school we always started the day after labor day because of the heat. ( I am in Arizona). Now they started the first week of Aug. here! Each year it gets pushed up and is crazy. Then they let them out the 3rd week of May like always. The way they can do this is they have a half day every week and every other week they seem to have a day or more off! It is stupid. I put my oldest in a charter school ( he is a Freshman in High School) and he started the 3rd week of Aug and gets out the last week of May but he has every Friday off. I like this because he doesn't have stupid half days and days off are fewer because every weekend is a long weekend.

Starting school here when it was 130 degrees out last summer was crazy. Not to mention there is no air conditioning on the buses! On ther other end back east should start early because they get so cold and have snow Days.
It should not go by the fun the kids need but instead what is best for them to learn.

For college, I went to Northwestern, which was on the quarter system and started after Labor Day. That meant I usually picked up just sick amounts of overtime at Disney World in August, after the MKCPs and other student CT employees went home.

The most consecutive days I remember having worked was 15 and most consecutive double shifts I remember pulling was four. After each of those, though, I could feel my mind beginning to go and I had to take a day off. (When you start having dreams about singing bears in pirate ships, you've been working Magic Kingdom West too hard.)
