Published: February 13, 2008 at 10:55 AMI remember the original house and being amazed at the electric can opener! What can I say, I was young. I hope this one can stir up the imagination of this generation and not be another "Innovation".
Published: February 14, 2008 at 5:32 AMI like the idea but it will have to be done well or it could fail big time.
I can remember Fairs back in the day exhibiting the projected views of life in the 2000s.
Well we're still driving vehicles with wheels, we're not wearing aluminum foil suits and we still don't have personal robots looking after us.
But is was fun thinking it might happen. So Disney needn't bother getting too highbrow with this.
Mind you my walkie-talkie from the 50s looks pretty naff next to a Blackberry.
Published: February 14, 2008 at 5:48 AMWait... that stupid Xanadu house in Orlando used to be at Disneyland!??!?
Published: February 14, 2008 at 5:50 AMYep, I rmember it! A four winged house...kinda nifty for its time...Center doom skylight and all...It now would be very retro and fun to see...with tommarowland being total flash gordan,,,julis vern....So bring it back we all need a laugh
Published: February 14, 2008 at 7:38 AMXanadu was one of those 'naff-but-let's-see' attractions from my first trip to Kissimmee twenty years ago ...and it was naff too.
Published: February 14, 2008 at 8:07 AMI'm curious where this will be built. On the still-exiting foundation where the original was? Inside the Innoventions as an inside-only exhibit?
Published: February 14, 2008 at 9:53 AMI pray they don't take something out for it! Disney takes too many things out and either doesn't replace it for years or puts something stupid in place of it.
Published: February 14, 2008 at 10:09 AMThe picture I saw of the Xanadu house was NEVER in DL. I guess it's possible that some of the fixtures were, but I doubt that. I think the reference was a joke, or hope it was. The house of the future in DL had to be cut apart with saws since wrecking balls were just bouncing off.
Published: February 14, 2008 at 10:43 AMI remember as a kid going to Disneyland and being completely amazed by the House of Future. I was truly sorry to see it disappear. This is great news and I hope to God that that “mess” in Kissimmee wasn’t the old house. What a humiliating decline.
Published: February 14, 2008 at 12:25 PMI wonder if they'll just turn it into another sales pitch for the next i phone or something. Knowing the suits these days, I'll bet money on it.
Published: February 14, 2008 at 3:20 PM$15 million??!!
Published: February 15, 2008 at 7:25 AMAnd we thought sub-prime mortgages were a problem nowdays...
It'll indeed be inside the Innoventions building, like the Epcot version.
