Busch Gardens Tampa has announced plans for some updates to their live entertainment, according to this story at the St. Petersburg Times.

First up is a kiddie holiday show starring the Sesame Street Muppets, who have temporarily relocated from the closed-for-the-off-season Sesame Place. Along with the Sesame Street show, the characters will be on hand for photo ops and character breakfasts. Next spring, BGT will debut Katonga, a live musical stage show about animal fables, complete with a price tag of over $5-million.

All of this is part of BGT's efforts to boost ticket sales, which haven't been helped by Animal Kingdom, their main competitor in the rides-'n'-critters arena.

Will new shows bring people in? I suppose time will tell.

On top of the addition of these new shows there is a strong possibility of a new coaster being built at bgt within the next year or two. The park will renovate the Stanleyville area beginning nexy year and one of the ideas on the drawing board is a new major coaster. Good to see some new development at the park.

I have long said there should be more character presence at their theme parks. If Busch does have the Sesame Street license for more than just Sesame Place, then they should really have them roaming around their other parks, right? They may seem a bit young, but there are lots of older people who like the Cookie Monster, Elmo, Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch, Bert and Ernie, etc.

Imagine Oscar the Grouch sitting next to the brewery tour. Wouldn't that provide a welcome insight to Oscar's character?

I was at Busch Gardens Tampa just Saturday, and on the Crazy Camel my mother had noone to ride with so the ride-op rode with her. She said Crazy Camel was leaving (*tear*) and they are getting a Wild Mouse coaster. She also said they were getting some more animal habitats. I wish they'd get something more intense. Maybe a flying coaster?
