SixFlags Great Adventure Gets a wooden coaster for 06
Six Flags Great Adventure: It's Intamin and the will parts will get sent in August.
SFGADV will get a wooden coaster in 2006. It's going to be a record breaker for wooden coasters. It's going in Viper's place and will top Son of Beast. It's Intamin and the will parts will get sent in August. Check rcdb and gadv.com's forums for more info.
Bigger than Son of Beast? I have one word....OUCH.

Awww....I don't like wooden coasters that much. :(
I love the idea for a new woodie, but the placement is too close to Rolling Thunder. Having 2 woodies next to each other is pretty silly. Are they going to also tear that one down to put up the new ride?
There has been no indication as to how large this new coaster will be, or even if they are going to put it on the Viper spot. The only word about this coaster is that they're planning on using the newer Intamin pre-fabricated track, which was used to make Balder and Colossus (Hyde Park). While Colussus is only second to Son of Beast in height and speed, Balder is a smaller, but higher rated coaster.
While it would make sense for SFGAdv to put in another record breaker, I don't think there's enough room on the Viper site to install one, and there aren't a whole lot of places where they could put one without screwing up the layout of the park, not that they have ever cared about that anyway. However, as Kings Island, and many other parks have found, for wooden coasters, bigger is never better. Shivering Timbers is probably the rare circumstance where a massive wooden coaster has maintained higher ratings.
^The word is saying the coaster will extend in the woods behind Viper's current spot and over the lake. Also, the Cow Ride will be moved.
I'm hearing now that thios coaster will go up the way RT does and go behind Medusa and come and have a finish over the lake. The bridge there maybe removed or they will get a new one. There is a rumored hotel for 2007-it's semi-conformed.
So are we now to assume that Six Flags now puts all it's money into Great Adventure...it seems as though Magic Mountain has been left to the rioters for now.

Yes, that is true. Six Flags Great Adventure is becoming the Flagship park for this company. The hotel has been confirmed, but the location is still being rumored. Many speculations point to the de-commisioning of The Great American Scream Machine and putting the hotel on that spot. But that's just a rumor.
^I've never heard that rumor. GASM is part of the park's history and I don't think their ready to take it down yet.

If you look at the pictures, Viper's station is till perfectly intact, so maybe they are planning to start the ride somewhere around that point.
I work at the park. We are expected to get the worlds longest roller coaster. Wooden or steel is unknown yet and it is going in either 2 spots. The water front area where it will be featured as completely over water, or where viper is and the woods behind medusa and around to the old season pass entrance will become the site of the ride. The word going around is that we are getting the worlds tallest wooden coaster that takes the record also in being the worlds longest coaster. There are also rumors going around that we are building a 700 room hotel on site with a resturant and pool. Then in 2007 we are expecting the arival of our third rollercoaster comming to six flags which is just barely being thought of and designed as we speak
If you worked at the park, you would know that the 2006 coaster is already locked in. The precise design and stats on it have not been released, but its location is not secret. They've left the Viper station stading for a reason, and it has been made very clear that the new coaster's station would share part of Viper's old station. Also, it has been very well publicised that it as an Intamin pre-fabricated wooden coaster. Parts are expected to arrive in August/September, and assmebly will begin shortly thereafter. I've heard all the rumors about records, but have a hard time believing them since Son of Beast, the current wooden record holder, has not been very popular recently, and as Kingda Ka and Dragster have proved, bigger does not guarantee success.
The hotel has been reported for almost a month now, but still needs to get through some red tape before construction can start.
How do you have the money?!?!?!?! You just spent nearly 30 million on the Golden Kingdom and Kingda Ka and now the longest coaster in the world? First you beat Cedar Fair now if its wooden you're going to beat Paramount... I like it! (lol)
I have never been to a Six Flags park,i don't live anywhere near one lol!!!!But i hear they have alot of accidents,is this the parks fault?
as one of the many people employed at the park....i know a lot of info. First, there is a boatload of undeveloped land near the old viper station which will be used. second the hotel will most likely be placed closer to hurricane harbor rather than the theme park because of the early closing time of the water park and lower noise level.
Why????????? Why???????? bulid stell wood is so rough and uncomtrbale. Id six flags trying to break likie every world record for every type and evry kind of rollercoaster
\
I have never been to a sixflags park Ill probaly go to one next year and I like the idea of another woodie going up(at least somebodys putting in a woodie). As long as its not painful I dont care Ill ride it. I might go to Great Adventure next year but im not sure(I might get stuck going to America(dosent matter really if i go there or not) Or I might end up going to Over Georgia. I dont care if I dont go to Great Adventure next year because Im going to Cedar Point this year I might settle for SFA next year. I like the idea of a wooden coaster going up there are you guys trying to beat the beast at PKI.

There are some pictures of them taking down tree's for construction
On the website it says...
July 24th
Trees are now being removed in Rolling Thunder's infield as well as the Viper site.
Top SoB huh? I dunno about that, might be pretty hard. It better not have a loop that makes the whole ride rough because of the trains like SoB!
Yeah, And I don't think they would have enogh room to top Son of the Beast. But you never know...

Confirmation: The coaster has been confirmed and will use Viper's old station. Go to GADV.com for more information. Also, the hotel has been confirmed, with 400 rooms, restaurant and bar, pool, and a private entrence next to Kingda Ka. The hotel will be built in the old season-passholder's parking lot.

THE REASON WHY WE HAVE THE MONEY TO FUND ALL OF THESE THINGS IS BECAUSE GREAT ADVENTURE IS SIX FLAG'S FLAGSHIP PARK. They have moved their attention from Magic Mountain to us and are now giving us all their money.
Mike M do you post at the gadv.com boards?
Anyway, site work is being done. I was there yesterday and all I saw was an orange construction vehicle on site.
The track pieces and stuff are going to be sent soon.
This is not a great idea. They should build a coaster with hi-tech special effects like Revenge Of The Mummy and Expedition Everest.
Six Flags and theming don't go well together.
Yeah, I know that but maybe they can try at least once. Just look for example Powder Keg at Silver Dollar City. At least they have a great theming like that. The special effects at Powder Keg are great. Also another example is Superman: Escape at MovieWorld Australia. How could they use the special effects coaster while Six Flags doesn't? Besides, they have the same name.
Themeing and SF are not friends infact themeing is planning to take down Six Flags some day and turn six flags into Themeing parks Ex: Theming Great Adventure... j/k but i dont want SF to ever build something like the mummy it would be mediocre.
I don't think SF should keep making record breakers at SFGADV because the park will just get crowdeder. I mean I love SFGADV but when I have been going latly it's been packed to the maximum, because of KK. If they keep it up, the park will be to crowded to enjoy.
On the other hand it's a good thing becasue they are getting alot of new awsome coasters.
the track pieces have arrived
Du you think that this coaster will be better than The Beast or Son Of Beast?
Apperently not, the Website annoced the Construction of El Toro...
At 181 feet tall, reaching 70 mph, El Toro will rank among the tallest and fastest wooden roller coasters in the world. Its 4,400 feet of mountainous track includes records for second tallest, fastest and longest drop of all wooden coasters in America and features the world’s steepest drop on a wooden roller coaster, 76 white-knuckled degrees.
El Toro will anchor the colorful and lively Plaza del Carnaval section along a scenic waterway. This newly-themed area will feature La Cocina restaurant offering authentic Mexican fare, plus an open-air, marketplace-style retail shop and a new, themed family ride. Plaza del Carnaval will also include one of the world's rare, classic dual-track wooden roller coasters, Rolling Thunder, introduced in 1979.
Check it out-http://www.sixflags.com/parks/greatadventure/ParkPress/092805NewCapLeadRelease.html
I think it is a pretty Crappy name..but sounds pretty cool
The press release says:
"Plaza del Carnaval will also include one of the world's rare, classic dual-track wooden roller coasters, Rolling Thunder, introduced in 1979."
They have not been running the second track on Rolling Thunder for many years now. Are they actually going to fix it up and get it running again? They tried all sorts of gimicks, including running one of the trains backwards. Hopefully, they will get it working to handle the overflow for El Toro.
I am not getting a clear picture as to where they are putting the Bugs Bunny National Park area. That side of the park is locked in by the Safari and the Parking Lot.
I've seen the prediction pictures and it looks so short. Only 4,400 feet? Voyage is more than 6,000 feet. But the height and the angle of the coaster is truly incredible. You can see that the drop is almost straight down and it looks so fast. The environment of the coaster also incredible. It is located along the side of the lake.
Have to say that the Voyage at Holiday World looks like a much better ride. It's not prefabbed, and it's being built by the same people that built the Raven and Legend...the other two top class coasters they have. The specs of Voyage are much more impressive than those of the new Six Flags addition. 6400 feet, 163 foot first hill taken at a 66 degree angle (steepest US wooden coaster), 67 mph, a couple of 90 degree banked turns, a triple down hill, and loads of airtime. This ride has the makings of the next number one wooden coaster. Take a virtual ride at HW's website if you haven't already. It's enough for me to consider a visit next year
El Toro will have the steepest drop with 76 degrees.
This thing has not been updated in awhile

Both sides of Rolling Thunder were working and racing through the summer and into the end of the 05 season, by the way. (But yeah, it HAD been awhile since they raced!)
Derek the voyage does look like a great ride but you're just a bit wrong. El Toro's drop will be 77 degrees, a world record. Both rides look to be shaping up into great woodies!
Actually El' Toro's drop will be 76 degrees not 77.
I'll be sure to bring my protractor.

Lol....for the record, the drop is indeed 76 degrees. If you do not beleive me, please check the SFGADV website.
For sure,76 degrees is the real number, check the website.
76, 77 same thing
I saw some posts on GADV about Six Flags maybe getting some sort of a Ball Coaster from Intamin or somthing in 2008 or 2007 or somthing, anybody hear about that?

Yeah, well that is just a rumor, but it would be very possible and incredibly expensive!
And coasterguy, yeah the source forums! This is drummgm!
Haha-it's KKR05.
Lift hill is now complete.
Does anyone know when El toro will be open for the 2006 season? I'm guessing since the progress they have made so far not until late may. But thats just a guess.
