Which is better: Universal Studios or Busch Gardens Tampa?

Can you tell me which a roller coaster fanatic would like better?

My family is travelling to Florida and I was wondering which park you guys thought was better: Universal Studios or Busch Gardens Tampa? I am particularly interested in the roller coasters at each park, so if you could tell me which has more or which has better coasters I'd appreciate it.

If you like roller coasters, Busch Gardens has much more!

Universal's coasters are indeed great...all three of them. I believe that BGT has 6, two of them old school loopers, and the other 4 are some of the best in the world. I'd go to Tampa if I were you.

Actually, BGT has 8 coasters if you count the dueling wooden coaster (Gwazi) as 2. They have 3 excellent B&M coasters, including the only dive coaster in North America, 1 mouse coaster, 1 really lame Arrow corkscrew, and 1 Schwarzkopf looper that's actually pretty good considering its age and simplicity.

Universal has 4 coasters if you include both parks and count Dueling Dragons as 2. All of their coasters are new (all built since 1999), and they're all excellent.

IMO, you can't really go wrong with either park. Universal is a little better-rounded (again, assuming that you include both parks), but if you like animals, BGT would be a better choice. BGT is also likely to be a bit less crowded.

If you are interested particularly in roller coasters go to either Busch Gardens Tampa or Universal's Islands of Adventure, stay away from Universal Studios as far as coasters go as USF only has one (The Mummy). If you want a better overall "theme park" experience I personally would go with the Universal Orlando parks.

We were at BGT yesterday and were disappointed at the constant shut-downs of their coasters. At one point, Montu, Scorpion and Gwazi (both sides) were all stopped. We waited in line 1/2 hour for Gwazi, only to have it close within minutes of boarding.

It reopened later, as did Montu, but it's a big park and there isn't a good way to know when they reopen.

We have passes, so we'll go back at another time, but if you only have one day to visit, it would suck to miss the coasters due to down-time.

If you want big thrills, go to Busch Gardens Tampa. They have Sheikra (which is awesome btw) and others. Universal Studios would be good if you were going to go to both IOA and USF. Then you would have to spend three or four days there to do all the rides (unless you use Express ofcourse)

As long as you're not going to Universal Orlando in July or August both parks can easily be covered in one day, two max.
