Flight of Fear No MoreKings Dominion: New news from King's Dominion about Flight of Fear and what's happening.
From Dustin KernI hadn't heard anything new about FOF at PKD so I called today. I actually just got off the phone with guest services and I have to say that I have bad news. FOF will be no more at PKD. It is and will stay closed forever more at PKD. Yes, the building is still there, but the lady that I spoke with said that the ride is either already moved, or it will be removed this year. All I can say is that Cedar Fair had better replace FOF with a ride that will fill the huge void that they have made by removing it. I'm very sad to see this ride be removed, but maybe it is for the good in the long run. Time will only tell...

From Derek PotterReally?? Seems kind of strange that Paramount would be making plans to move or close the ride now that Cedar Fair will be taking over. Perhaps it was to be rethemed. When Kings Island rethemed the Kings Mills Log Flume into the Wild Thornberries River Adventure, they acted as if KMLF was leaving. Paramount does that kind of stuff.
Posted May 27, 2006 at 3:06 PM
I wouldn't worry a bit about it though. I have a feeling that Cedar Fair has big plans for Kings Dominion once they move in.
From Jake CountissNo clue what will happen but I would think Cedar Fair will make something that will be 10x as good as Flight of Fear.

From Jake CountissI just got off the phone with guest services at Kings Dominion and they are moving it to another park. Right now they are taking apart the track to get ready to ship it to another park. My guess is Carowinds or Great America. I think Carowinds will recieve this ride because they don't have a launching coaster and Great America got a coaster this year.
Posted May 27, 2006 at 4:45 PM
From Zach BoothePGA didnt get a new coaster, its a disco, not a coaster
Posted May 28, 2006 at 10:23 AM
From Jake CountissI still call it a coaster because it isn't a flat ride and it has wheels and tracks like a coaster Zach.
Posted May 28, 2006 at 12:03 PM
From Dustin KernAlso, FOF stands right in the way of a lot of land. When you ride the lift on Anaconda, you know that whole field to the left? That's all park land that apparently was used as the safari when PKD first opened. With taking out FOF, it gives them and entrance to a whole new section of the park that they could be building. Also, there's plenty of room for a nice sized coaster. I'm so excited to see what Cedar Fair is going to do!
Posted May 28, 2006 at 3:52 PM
From RANDY TAYLORGood riddance to FOF, I hated that headbanger. A totally new area of the park would be great and exciting.
Posted June 5, 2006 at 8:16 AM
From Pete BrechtRandy, when was the last time you rode FOF? They replaced the OTSRs on that ride several years ago, so there's no more headbanging. How can you bang your head if there's only a lap bar?
Posted June 5, 2006 at 1:02 PM
From Carey Lynn HoltsclawFrom what I've read elsewhere, the ride will be relocated to Carowinds, where it will replace that park's Carolina Cyclone coaster.
Posted June 5, 2006 at 3:25 PM
From Jake CountissI don't know if their will be enough space for the ride in the area of Carolina Cyclone.
Posted June 5, 2006 at 6:03 PM
From steve leeJeez, Carolina Cyclone is running a little rough this year, but there's no reason for Carowinds to dump it. And I have to wonder what the thematic plan was for Flight of Fear in the Carolina Boardwalk area of the park (not that it matters with Cedar Fair in the captain's chair).

From Chase HarrisonMaybe theyll put FOF down there and name it MTV:Soundwave......
Posted June 8, 2006 at 6:50 PM
From Chase Harrisonsry for the double post but im hoping for Carowinds I meant.

From mollie hummerwell i went to PKD today and i learned that Flight of Fear is just being rethemed. its expected to reopen today or tomorrow if not sometime later this week.
Posted August 17, 2006 at 3:02 PM
From Rowan BookerYes, its just being re-themed. It should be open again with in the next few weeks.
Posted August 18, 2006 at 2:35 AM
From Sean RustIs it being non-paramount themed or is it getting an MTV theme?
Posted August 18, 2006 at 8:59 PM
From Jacob PalmerHow do you know that, Mollie? You may have seen this on Screamscape.com (I posted it), but when I was there last, I could see the that rear door to Flight of Fear was open, and that they were in there doing stuff. I also saw what looked to be an industrial size pressure washer near the ride...so this would make sense...Oh, and out of curiousity, did anyone besides me notice how dirty the line and spaceship were last year?
Posted August 19, 2006 at 6:06 PM
From Sean RustThe word dirty is synonymous with PKD...
Posted August 19, 2006 at 6:34 PM
From Derek PotterAccording to everyone, Flight of Fear is now open and there to stay. The previous management was considering moving the ride, but Cedar Fair put a stop to it.
Posted August 19, 2006 at 8:22 PM
From Christy ShumanI called guest services today and they said the FOF and Volcano are both running, so all is good 2 go!
Posted August 20, 2006 at 1:20 AM
From Jacob PalmerWell, it used to be synonymous...in their defense, they have gotten much better...just they used to be how Carowinds is now....which is bad..but still, improvement is needed..haha
Posted August 20, 2006 at 10:20 AM
From Christy ShumanDoes anyone know how the crowds are at PKD in october during fearfest?
Posted August 20, 2006 at 3:17 PM
From Dustin KernThey aren't too bad for weekend crowds as long as you don't go the first one or actual Halloween weekend. Last year I went and it rained in the morning and the rest of the day it was walk ons on Volcano and Hypersonic.
Posted August 20, 2006 at 4:31 PM
From Jake CountissThe fearfest is not as good as Busch Gardens. The haunted maze was also kind of cheasy. Stay away from weekends as Dustin Said and you should be fine.
Posted August 20, 2006 at 4:39 PM
From Alex SilvermanI was at PKD in late July. Was FOF open at this time? I really hope I didn't miss it. From what I have heard it is pretty far out of sight, so I just wanted to make sure I wasn't a complete moron and didn't wind up missing FOF.
Posted August 20, 2006 at 8:51 PM
From Jacob PalmerNo, you didn't, it just re-opened last friday.
Posted August 20, 2006 at 11:34 PM
From Pete BrechtCan anyone confirm that FOF is in fact open and running? I was just at PKD this past Thursday evening, and the construction fence was still up around FOF. Also, the PKD website makes no mention of FOF anywhere. You'd think that if they opened up one of their top rides after having it shut down all season, they'd make a point to let people know.
Posted August 21, 2006 at 8:39 AM
From Christy ShumanI know when I spoke with PKD on the phone this past Saturday, he told me FOF is now up and running, I guess I'll find out for sure when I go.
Posted August 21, 2006 at 8:45 AM
From Joshua JenkinsYeah the FOF is still up and running strong. Just was there Saturday. Still worth the wait in line too!!
Posted August 21, 2006 at 12:11 PM
From Jacob PalmerI look forward to my first ride of the season on FOF tomorrow!
Posted August 21, 2006 at 12:30 PM
From Alex SilvermanWhy was this ride closed in the first place and how long has it been closed? I'm upset it wasn't open for my Late-july visit to PKD or should I say CFKD (cedar fair) or just KD LOL.
Posted August 21, 2006 at 3:04 PM
From Christy ShumanI heard they were trying to sell it but noone would buy it, then I heard they were gonna move it to paramount Carowinds so they would have a launch coaster, but Im glad PKD is keeping it!!!
Posted August 21, 2006 at 4:33 PM
From Adrienne McDonaldI was told via email it was just being rethemed.
Posted August 22, 2006 at 8:32 PM
Say it isn't so, why wud they spend $10 mil on it just to get rid of it. Makes more sense to revamp.
From Adrienne McDonaldI was told via email it was just being rethemed.

Say it isn't so, why wud they spend $10 mil on it just to get rid of it. Makes more sense to revamp. They need to get rid of that Shockwave first!
From Sean RustIs it still called "Flight of Fear" or is it the Mtv thing?
Posted August 22, 2006 at 8:49 PM
From Christy ShumanWell if they were gonna keep it then why didnt they retheme it in the off season? I cant wait to see what they are actually gonna retheme it to next year.
Posted August 23, 2006 at 6:23 AM
From Christy ShumanI think the first coaster that should go is Anaconda, I cant stand that neck jerker!
Posted August 23, 2006 at 6:25 AM
From Dustin KernI wouldn't mind seeing Anaconda go, that would mean something big is going to take it's place. What needs to go first though is Shockwave. That ride is aweful and it's capacity is horrible. That would be a nice place for a Huss Frisbee if they still make them anymore.
Posted August 23, 2006 at 8:20 AM
From Christy ShumanWhat is a Huss Frisbee?
Posted August 30, 2006 at 8:01 AM
From Dustin KernmaXair at Cedar Point. You can check it out right on their website
Posted August 30, 2006 at 9:36 AM
From Christy ShumanAnyone rode the FOF latley, How is it this year? any different from last year?
Posted September 2, 2006 at 12:36 PM
From jason wallaceTHEY WILL BE CLOSING THE FIGHT OF FEAR IN JUNE OR JULY.... THEY ARE ADDING TO THE FIGHT OF FEAR IT WILL BE BIGGER AND FASTER AND BETTER ...(FLIGHT OF FEAR OPERATOR)
Posted June 5, 2010 at 7:47 PM
From Adrienne McDonaldawesome...thanx Jason for posting.
Posted June 11, 2010 at 9:34 PM
From James RaoNot saying the info is false, but I can't find any confirmation anywhere of this upcoming ride closure. And I have a hard time believing Cedar Fair would close FoF during the peak of the summer season when they have the entire off-season to accomplish a refurb.
Posted June 12, 2010 at 7:55 AM
However, if you find any other confirmation, please let us know.
From Eli KatzmanI was there monday and we rode FoF a couple times. Don't know if it had any constellation, but there were no signs of it closing. (Expect a full tr from me in the next week)
Posted June 12, 2010 at 11:55 AM
From Frank ForresterI haven't heard anything about it closing either on the local news in the area. I'll believe it when I see some mention about it on the local news or in the local newspaper or on KDs website.
Posted June 12, 2010 at 3:54 PM
From Charles ReichleyI'll say this -- FoF is getting a real workout now that they opened I-305. We were there for Father's day today, the crowds were actually pretty small, but the wait for FoF was longer than the wait for I-305 (that I305 really moves a ton of people quickly).
Posted June 20, 2010 at 9:11 PM
Since people walk past FoF after the Intimidator, they are stopping in to ride; plus it's open from the start of the day, when it used to open late.
I didn't see any sign they were working on it. And I'm not sure how they would make it "bigger" -- it barely fits in the building now, and the design is pretty congested.
Had they done anything to the Joker at Six Flags? It was the same coaster, just outside, and probably easier to make bigger.
Maybe they were just going to fix up the building and add some effects? I always thought they could have used some lighted alien effects in the ride.
