Need Six Flags Magic Mountain help...
Six Flags Magic Mountain: Need advice from SFMM experts..
I saw on SFMM that Flashback is back on the menu, do you think it's back up & running? Also, if so, where is it, I can't find it on the online map. I plan to go Sept. 6-7 while they're still open during the week. Is it as crowded then as it is on the weekends? Should I start w/the popular coasters in the front of the park or wait til almost closing? I figure if I do the popular ones first when I get there it should have shorter line wait. What do y'all think? I've never been so I'd appreciate any advice so I can enjoy my visit. Thanx, in advance, to anyone who replies.
Flashback is not running. I went yesterday and it was closed. And it will be much less croweded if you go on the weekday. I reccommend going on a weekday. Weekends are horrible. Start with the most popular rides as soon as you get to the park. Go to Tatsu because it will have the longest lines. After that do X. Other rides that will have short lines in the morning will be Deja Vu, GOliath, Scream. Most people recommend eating out the park but i don't suggest it because once you get back, you will be given parking very far away from the entrance. However do eat dinner somewhere outside of park. I recommend that if you leave the park at around 9pm you can go to Islands and they give you nice fast service. Do not leave later than 10 from the park because it gets very croweded in leaving and you will be stuck in traffic for a long time. Hope you enjoy your visit, its a lot of fun!
Apparently the sign for Flashback has been removed from the park. Another nail goes into the coffin.
it proabley won't be crowded everybody is back in school and flashback is going to be gone forever very soon
Thanx so much to everyone who replied! That's too bad about Flashback, I was hoping to ride just to say I did. I know most ppl say it wasn't worth the ride but it was/is a unique coaster. You'd think SFMM wud take it off the menu then huh. Oh well & thanx Shamoni for all your helpful hints! I'll def. take everything y'all suggested into consideration. I can't wait. :)
Oops sorry, I spelled your name wrong Shemoni. Sorry 'bout that! ;)
you're very welcome! I hope you enjoy your visit there! And yes I promise you that your trip to Magic MOuntain will be unforgettable..I mean think of all the amazing coasters we have!!
I knowwwww!! I've been wanting to go since I was a little kid. I think it was the movie National Lampoon's Vacation that did it for me, lol. Other than Astroworld, MM has the more unique rides. I'll try to get bk on here & tell ya how it went. I usually try to eat in the park if possible, that way I don't hafta leave although I hate paying the rediculous prices but sometimes ya gotta.
i can tell you right now, since school is back in session, the lines for the rides have cut down. most roller coasters will be running 1 train now.
Thanx John for your input as well. Do you think X will be open on Thursdays? It was closed like last Saturday--unusual for a Saturday?? Maybe it was 2 Saturdays ago but I know for a fact it was closed. I heard it's closed Wed. for maintenance but why would it be closed on a busy day like Sat. If I'm flying all the way from TX to ride it, I hope it'll be open at least on that Thursday. (my trip is on Wed-Thurs).
Best advice, save more money and go to Cedar Point - I've never heard anything good about SFMM other then they a lot of room to expand (not that anyone wants more of that dump)
SFMM is not a dump and we have good coasters here. A lot has improved lately in the park. Its gotten better this summer. I last visited 2 weeks ago and I noticed lots of new things there. This whole Cedar Point/Magic Mountain rivarly is stupid. Both parks are good depending on what interestes you most in a theme park. Cedar Point has certain better things than Magic Mountain and Magic Mountain has certain better things than Cedar Point.
Thanx for your advise Ben but I have no interest in going to Cedar Point. Mantis would be the only reason & that's really no reason to go unless I just happen to be in Cinci for KI. I'm taking everything people have said about SFMM in consideration but I'd like to form my own opinion before I rule it as a "dump". As I've previously stated & as Shemoni said, SFMM has unique coasters. That's what I'm after. There's really nothing unique at CP other than MForce & maybe MagnumXL & I don't intend to ride either one. Thanx anyway though. **Thanx Shemoni--you understand me don't you! ;) lol.
I've never been, and somethings do look interesting, (i.e. X or Goliath for example) but I don't feel like $59 is really worth it to go a dirty six flags park. it's the same reason I don't go to SFGAmerica here anymore
ya i agree $59 is wayy too much to spend on any park, clean or dirty and yes Adrienne, I do understand you haha ;)
Well since I buy tix online, I don't hafta pay that much plus I got an outer market season pass from SFOT & it was only $48 w/tax. So as far as admission goes, I'm set. If you've never been how do you know it's a dump? I'm not planning on riding Goliath--we have Titan here, same coaster. The ones I'm after are X of course, Tatsu, Revolution, Colossus, Riddler's, Superman, Scream--just because, Ninja, maybe Viper just because & of course Flashback if it's open--haha. The rest are pretty much anywhere else like Batman, Goliath, DeJaVu, Psyclone. Don't really need these in my book.
I was just there last Thursday (the 31st). A few things:
Definitely buy tickets online ahead of time on sixflags.com if you can--$40 is better than the absurd $60 you'll pay at the gate. Do be forewarned that closing time is 6pm for this last week, so get there right at opening (10am). It wasn't crowded by any means when i went--I didn't wait more than about 30-35 minutes for any ride, and a lot were short lines or even walk-ons. And yes, a lot were just running a single train. Flashback is indeed SBNO despite still being on the park map (it's just behind Hurricane Harbor if you're wondering); so was Freefall and possibly some others. X was closed that day, and Deja Vu too I think. Go ahead and ride Ninja--it's walk-on--sit in the back. Condition-wise, a lot of things could use some TLC but I wouldn't call it a dump by any means. If you want eating suggestions while there, go to Panda Express which is across from Viper. You'll get the quality you'd normally expect from them, plus drinks are included with the combos and when you factor out what the drink would cost separately you're paying almost the same for the combo itself as you would at a regular location. Forget the souvenir cups unless you're a soda-holic; there's plenty of chilled drinking fountains around the park. With a 6pm closing you could eat out after leaving no problem.
Anyways, hope this helps. If you're a big-ride fan, having fun here will be a given.

speaking of dirty, how does the park get that way? do you think the people that work there throw trash around? they are the ones that have to clean it all up at the end of the day. it's the guests that don't put trash in the trash cans.
Thanx Matthew, you're a big help! I hope X is running, that is SO disappointing that it ALWAYS seems closed. I thought the pk closed at 7, thanx for letting me know otherwise. Yes, I'm definitly a ride-aholic! Can't seem to get enuf! Thanx for telling me where Flashback is, lol I can at least take a photo! Is the back of Ninja REALLY better than the front? No, I'm not big on sodas, I usually drink water but I agree w/what you wrote about the drinking fountains & the sodas & I'll definitly ck out Panda Xpress. I HAD one of those souvinir cups but guess what, the lid wouldn't seal on it & my water kept pouring out, plus they're a pain in the rear having to keep up w/them all over the park. I won't get another unless I'm just desperate for one! Thank you so much for your kind reply, again, it was very very helpful!
Glad I could help. :) With it being after Labor Day now there shouldn't be any crowds during the week. I was there from about 12 to closing time at 8; I would have liked a few more hours but didn't feel like I missed anything major. (But I'd been a couple times before, although not recently.) I rode Ninja near the front but I'm assuming the back cars will swing further up for a little extra thrill factor, although this ride is pretty non-intense on average. Consider it a quick diversion but worthwhile if you haven't rode one like it before. Flashback is there for the picture-taking. (I was there in 1995 when it was running and should have but didn't get around to it)
I think that's all...Have fun.......
Oh yes, I've ridden Big Bad Wolf & XLR8 but on BBW--definitly spoiled on it lol but we rode in the bk on XLR8 but I guess since it was backwards seats it just didn't seem to swing that much. It was the first successful one though so that may be why. Thanx again for all your help! If I'd only known that Flashback was there & running & would be closed I wudda gotten to the park sooner myself to ride it. I just hope someone buys it & gets it running again. I don't know why they don't just move it to the other end of the park, I heard that Psyclone was closed down now. They could put FB in its place.
Psyclone was open; I don't recall it ever having been closed down for any major stretch before. Ridership is poor but does exist. As for Flashback, all I know about it I learned from this site and others, I've read it was chronically under-maintained and has deteriorated a lot. Moving it would solve the noise problem assuming restoration doesn't, but I doubt both moving and restoring it would be worth the expense. If MM ends up closing down, in all likelihood it'll be torn down but I suppose there's always a small chance of another chain or mom-n-pop park taking an interest in it. In all honesty, although I'd like to see it restored, my suggestion would be to toss it and build a Looney-Tunes or similar-themed dark ride in its place. MM is sorely in need of family rides like that, and next to Bugs Bunny World would be a prime spot.
To begin with...I have worked at Six Flags for a few years now..the problems with the park are not the employees fault....it's the pen pushers that run the show. We are merely puppets. We are all hoping that whoever purchases our park will have a better idea of how a theme park should operate and issue a budget to allow us to do our job properly for once. If only you guys out there who take every opportunity to jump on the park ready to give it a bad rap, saying things like...."This doesn't work, that was crap, that ride was closed....." if only you knew what our Mechanics and full time employees go through to get the park up and running every day of operation you would soon understand and appreciate that against all odds, they still do their best and the fact that we have the best safety record of most of the theme parks in the world, says something about the type of people you few are always bringing down. You know what..it's boring now, you're boring the good people out there who visit Magic Mountain in the thousands every day.
As far as discounts are concerned....yes, if you're stupid, you are going to pay $59.99 to get in but the wise will seek out the discounts that are out there to be found. Coke have been running a promo for months...bring a coke can, pay one entry fee and get the second free!I don't know about you but that tells me you can get in for under $30.00! We have also worked with Ralphs, Subway and other various retailers not counting of course the hundreds of companies within California who sell discounted tickets to their employees on a daily basis....perhaps those of you out there who "Dog" our park haven't got a decent job and therefore cannot afford to go to the retailers that promote discounts...my advice to you is, stop complaining about the park, get a job or ask Mark Shapiro (CEO) if you could have a stab at doing a better job than he has.....
X unfortunatley is closed for repair...and believe it or not, when we close a ride it means it's unsafe to be ridden!!!!!It's not done to piss people off! Six flags is an Xtreme thrill park experience..you will always find thrill rides to be ridden, places to eat and great stuff to buy....come and enjoy the thrills...but don't expect the fairy tale experience of "Dis$#%".....you won't find fairys in our park.....we eat fairys for dinner! ENJOY!

Thanks for that, Lisa. I comepletly agree with you and am grateful that you guys who actually work at the park keep the place decent. I also hope Magic Mountain gets a better owner to treat you guys better.
As for X... the past two times I've ridden that ride when it's running seemed unsafe. Absolutely no one I see is smiling after that ride, and is complaining about their aching body. Myself included.
I disagree about "Dis%$&" ...I still like Disneyland.
Well I don't think the ppl were actually referring to the employees anyway. We all know that Shapiro has no business running Six Flags but he is soooo....if we could change that for the better, believe me, it wudda been done already. Since you work there, any word on when X will re-open? Anyhoo, thanx to all that helped me on my trip.

thank you lisa!!!!!!!!! yes, if people knew what it's like in the morning when the supervisors are scrambling to send people from one ride to another so it can open too.
If you go to mgc mntn in pairs, there are a ton of buy one get one free ticket offers out there.
That's true, thanx!
