Busch Gardens Tampa: I'm looking for suggestions! :-)

My husband and I have 1 day passes to Busch Gardens Africa. We're planning to go on a weekday, later this month.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to what order we should hit the rides? We're looking to hit all the big coasters and possibly some of the animal attractions.

You have to get there at least an hour early. Get to shiekra first. Its supposed to be re-opened on June 16th as a floorless coaster and if it does, the lines are going to be insane!! I know its a weird place to start because its in the middle of the park, but trust me, get it out of the way. After shiekra, and if your not scared of a little water, hit the rides that are next to it...you got 2/Stanley Falls and tangayika tidal wave. Then make your way to congo river rapids to finish off the water rides. Kumba is next to Congo River, so you can start drying off. After your done with kumba, find the skyway ride, which is back in stanleyville. It will take you to the monty and katonga show area. After all that, your pretty much done doing everything major, and just relax and start looking at all the animals. If you can pull off all the major rides before 1pm, the rest of the day is peaches and cream.

I disagree, I say hit Montu first simply beause its in the front of the park and will stay busy all day. Then hit the skyride which will dump you out right at Sheikra, then back track your way to Rhino Rally....hitting Kumba, and cheetah Chase.

Sorry Erik but i disagree with you. Yes, Montu is in the front, and under normal circumstances I would always suggest starting there...BUT...sheikra would be far more packed than montu will ever be for the rest of the summer after june 16th. I say get it out of the way first, because i am almost willing to bet my life that montu wont have that long of a line. I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion and i respect yours, i just disagree with, like you disagreed with mine.

I doubt there will be too many extra people because of the floorless trains. They probably all rode Griffon and said the heck with Sheikra.

I understand what you're saying Iris, and it makes sense....however, I think that most people go for the front of the park first....and it doesnt get any shorter throughout the day as that is the first coaster you see when you come up to the gates, and as you leave the park its the last.
We've hit Montu being the first people on, hit the skyride, and have dumped out at Sheikra before most people can walk through it. Its also a great way to see the animals first thing in the morning, and good way to see where the crowds are heading.

Tyler, Griffon is 15 hours away from Sheikra. Only geeks like us are going to make that kind of trek for a rolley coaster. Believe me, when that thing reopens it'll be a very big deal.

As for the which one to hit first debate...man, I think I kinda like Erik's strategy. I've always been the "straight to Sheikra" type, but if you can get on and off the skyride as quickly as he makes it out, that could be a very good option as well.

I think the major factor here is rerides. If you head straight for Sheikra, you could conceivably get at least one extra reride before the crowds get too big. We usually have been able to get 3 or 4 rides before the line got longer than 5 minutes.

But I'm thinking you're already off to a very good start by not going on a Saturday.

Yeah, ok...i like your strategy Erik, i really do. It is a long walk to shiekra. I've just had the really bad luck that the skyride was never open in the morning due to higher than normal winds...then they would calm down in the afternoon and i hitched a ride back to the front of the park. So.....I withdraw my original plans. TO the person who asked for the advice, go with Erik's plan.

Well, my plan is contingent on whether or not skyride is open....be sure to check that first.
And I did drive 13 hours to ride JUST Griffon at BGE.

It was great, and Sheikra going floorless will be great, but I just dont see it being as big a deal as when it first opened. Sure there will be the nerds like all of us who will want to ride it again because its "new" but I dont see the general public being all that excited about it. I'm probably wrong, because it has been closed a while now.

.....and if you decide you want to come back the next day, instead of only making it a one day visit, you probably will able to convert the ticket into a 1 year pass for nothing, to a few dollars.

I might be going to Busch Gardens Tampa on Tuesday the 24 th. I was wondering one thing...

When I went to BGT last year, I made the mistake of not going to Montu first, and instead going straight to Sheikra. However, by the two wooden dueling coasters, there was a park employee holding everyone back and saying that the park had staggered openings, meaning Stanleyville was not opening until 9:30 AM...

I was wondering if that was still the case now, or whether one could go straight to Sheikra after opening without being held back by park employees?
If it's still a staggered opening, I ll go with Erik's suggestions of hitting Montu first, skyriding to Sheikra, and then everything else from there.

Feedback appreciated. Thanks.

I have never encountered staggered openings at Busch Gardens, and I went a few weeks ago and they didnt do it then either. I walked straight to Sheikra without any problems. But, if you are afraid that you might encounter the situation again, go with Eriks' suggestion. OR, when you get to the park ask an employee at Guest Relations or the employee at your line when you walk thru the main gate. I am sure they would know the specifics, therefore you can make a decision then and there before you head to Montu. Hope this helped.

I ended up oversleeping so the point is moot at this point : ) Thanks for the suggestions though. Perhaps the last time I went, Sheikra was undergoing some unscheduled maintenance in the morning, causing Stanleyville to not open till 9:30...
