Busch Gardens Africa (Tampa) False Advertising

Busch Gardens Tampa: Contrary to the name and images on their t-shirts, Busch Gardens "Africa" doesn't have any African Elephants. I thought this was supposed to be an African-themed park?

Contrary to the name and t-shirts, Busch Gardens "Africa" doesn't have any African Elephants. It's fine that they only have Asian elephants, but they only have African elephants (larger ears, bigger, wrinkled skin etc.) on the t-shirts they sell. I thought this was supposed to be an African-themed park? This was extremely disappointing.

Uhhh, yes they do. Or at least they had some last year on July 1st which was the last time i went there. THey even did a feeding and bathing presentation. And no i am not confusing them with the Asian Elephants, i know the difference.
Perhaps they were all resting inside when you went and you just didnt see them. Did you ask the staff about them?

Everything is African there. The water is imported for Africa. The Steel for the coasters comes from Africa. The free Budweiser was imported…… Even the Clydesdale’s are from Africa. Hahahahahahaha

Yes, we asked one of the keepers, and she said they only have Asian Elephants (several of them). All of the ones by Rhino Rally are Asian Elephants. All of the descriptions at the exhibit are about Asian elephants.

I know many people here don't care, but my whole family was really looking forward to seeing African Elephants. We can see Asian Elephants any time for free at the DC Smithsonian Zoo.

I really think it's hypocritical that they only have African elephants on all of their merchandise, but they don't have one in the entire park.

Yes, it is probably one of the greatest tragedies that could befall a family. Sure they have tigers, lions, rhinos, meerkats, and countless other gorgeous animals. Sure the park has some excellent rides. Admittedly, it is a great place for both kids and adults. But to not have African Elephants? It's an outrage! Maybe we could arrange for the management of the park to be flogged in a public square? No, better yet, let's find some African Elephants and let them trample the responsible parties. Surely that would be poetic justice, eh?

Or maybe, just maybe we could realize that it isn't the end of the world. Busch Gardens Africa is a terrific theme parks & zoo. It's pathetic to obsess over the absence of a single animal. That's like going to Magic Kingdom on a day when Haunted Mansion is closed and endlessly moaning about it and claiming false advertising because they promote the attraction. If you choose to let something like this ruin your entire trip it tells me far more about you than it does about the park.

Joseph, you are my new hero. I too know the difference between African and Asian elephants, and I am pretty sure that my list visit to the elephant enclosure there were some African Elephants.....but then again, I'm usually too busy enjoying the world class coasters and sampling the free beer to care.

Actually, the only really impressive animal exhibits to me were the hippo and the gorillas. Other than that, I've seen far better animal exhibits elsewhere.

Actually, it didn't ruin my entire trip at all. I really enjoyed Katonga, Montu, and Sheikra (Kumba was closed the entire day, but it didn't really bother me).

Your logic about Haunted Mansion is flawed, because even if the ride was closed, Disney still has it in the park. On the other hand, Busch Gardens doesn't even have one African Elephant in the entire park. There's a difference between going to the park on the wrong day and going to the park without being able to even view the attraction, because they don’t have it.

Excuse me if I view some hypocrisy in only having Asian Elephants in the "African" section of a primarily African-themed park. Then, all of their elephant merchandise depicts African Elephants.
