Aside from kiddie coasters when I was little, my first "real" coaster was The Comet at (now defunct) Crystal Beach in Ontario, Canada. I heard they moved it to another park when Crystal Beach closed. Does anyone know where it is now or if it still exists? I was terrified the first time I rode it. I must have been about 12. They had another, smaller wooden coaster, as well as the Wild Mouse, and I loved them. That park was a blast...too bad it didn't survive.

Space Mountain at Disneyland, 8 years old. I was terrified of roller coasters, but my Grandpa talked me into it. I had a blast!

We were careful with our son to make sure his first roller coaster was a pretty good one - the Matterhorn. Of course, he was only 2, and may not remember it!

Oh, I know. It was Mr. Twister, the one that used to be at Elich(I don't know how to spell) Gardens. I've even been on the freshened one at Knobles theme park and resort. I like the new one better. Just like Michael here, i will say all mine.

For me, I only liked and would never try anything except for Mr. Twister. I only just remembered how much I like them in late May, 2007.

Karin S., The Crystal Beach Comet is still called the Comet and is located at Great Escape in Lake George, NY.
My first coaster was the Comet at Lincoln Park in N. Dartmouth, MA. That park is looong gone.
After that, my next coaster was the Giant Coaster at Paragon Park at Nantasket Beach, MA. That, too, is long gone, but someone put some cool pix of it on RCDB.com recently.

Thanks for the update, Claudine. I used to go to Lincoln Park during the summer (my mom's family lived in Massachusetts). That was a great park and reminded me of Crystal Beach. Now if Canobie Lake Park in New Hampshire closes, I'm a jinx.

Karin, Parks like that are why I didn't answer the "worst park in America" question. Sometimes the lousy park that's close to your house is still better than no park at all. I grew up going to Crescent Park, Lincoln Park and Rocky Point. Now they're all gone.

Ryan - Corkscrew was an Arrow looper, not an invert.

I think mine was the Dahlonega Mine Train at SFOG, with the first real coaster being years later on Mindbender at the same park.

The 'mine' train at SFSL was the first then Screamin' Eagle. I didn't like that one. I thought it was dangerous til I found out what "air time" is. I thought I wasn't strapped in good but now I know it's supposed to be that way. That was in 1990. The first looping type was Flashback at SFOT if I remember correctly. I had my eyes closed & got whiplash. Took me 11 years to ride another boomerang but had my eyes open this time & it was great.

The Carolina Cyclone at Carowinds. Not very high drop, and Im not sure of the maker, but I would guess arrow, but two back to back loops followed by back to back corkscrews, and downward helix into a tunnel. At the time I was terrified, but Im so glad I started riding coasters.

My first coaster was the Beastie at King's Island when I was 8. I was terrified. I didn't ride again for a few years. I think I was about 13 when I went back to King's Island with buddies and peer pressure won out. Thankfully so, I have loved coasters ever since! :)

My son who is now 8 has been riding the Beastie (now called Fairly Odd Coaster, I believe) since he was 6 and while the first few years were a little tense, he loves it now and rides it over and over. Last year he was tall enough to ride Top Gun, Mine Coaster, and the Racers. Glad to see he has taken to them even earlier. :)

My very first was actually Montu, at Busch Gardens Tampa. I wasn't afraid to ride it, but my friend was. I gave him five bucks to ride it just once with the stipulation that if he didn't like it, he could just sit out the rest of the coasters and keep the five bucks.

Needless to say, we rode Montu somewhere around six times, and that was just Montu. We hit all the other coasters multiple times, as well.
