Looking for Information About The Efteling

I was in Holland recently and heard about this great theme park called the "Efteling." Unfortunately, I did not have time in my itinerary to visit it, but I was curious if any of our European page visitors know anything about this park that "received the Applause Award for the best park in the world, and the Pomme d'Or, the highest tourist sector award in Europe."

Efteling has an English-language page at http://www.efteling.nl/docs.en/index.html.

It's one the European parks that I would dearly love to get on the site. Others include Europa Park, Movie World in Spain and Legoland Billund. (I've got someone working on Drayton Manor.)

Thanks for the response, Robert!

Yeah, I checked out that website--it's quite good. You're able to get a good idea of some of the attractions at the park...

I was still hoping that someone at this site might have visited it personally and could give me a direct recollection of the park...

Oh well...it was a longshot...

Next year, if I could to Europe again, I'll be sure to visit it and send themparkinsider info about it...

Hi!

Ive been to the efteling many times. Its basically a fairytale kind of themepark, very suitable for kids and families. Its more the atmosphere than the rides that make the park. Overall its a very good park, looks great.... but for the best rides I think 6-flags Holland is better.

After reading your post, I really wanted to find information on the Efteling. So I looked for information on Yahoo, and this is what I found: http://www.themeparkvision.net/US/Park.asp?ParkID=97&LandID=2
I will try to keep on looking, and if I find something better, I'll post again.

Efteling is an amazing park. Originally built over 50 years ago it's theme was fairy stories. However, over the years it has constantly updated itself and has rides for all ages, from state of the art rollercoasters to the old fashioned wooden, rickety style!! This park is the ultimate in cleanliness as the kids do all the work - using talking litter bins, the kids scamper everywhere looking for litter to 'feed' the bins to make them speak!! Clever technique. Several years ago, in a BBC review on 5 theme parks worldwide, Efteling was voted the best all round for families. (It beat Disney Florida!!!)

Actually, TPI has a Efteling page coming soon. Who's doing it? I'm not sure. Some idiot. I think his name was MouseEater, or something...

The Efteling started as a fairytale family park. The core of the park leans on its fairytale village. Fairytales Disney has used in his movies as well. This village is a walk-and-look place, but children love it.
An addition to this fairytale village is "The People of Laaf" [Het volk van Laaf], another fairytale village, but more things to do by visitors themselves.
"Fata Morgana" needs a notification on its own. Its a ride through the world of Ali Baba with a boat where many puppets give you an excititing trip.
"Droomvlucht" [DreamFlight] is one of the main attractions in the park, and is, again a ride-and-look attraction. Beautiful decorated and a must for the Eftelingvisitor.

So far for the sit-and-look rides. The Efteling has a Bobsled ride, a rollercoaster with two loops and a corkscrew, a wooden rollercoaster, wild water trip, a dark ride (roller coaster), spinning teapots [these are boiling cauldrons of Monsieur Cannibale], and a swinging ship.

The real power derives not from these attractions, but it is the effort the park puts in her attractions. They create a certain atmosphere, which makes you at ease, and go into a dreamy kind of place.
There is absolutely no garbage in the park, and I find that quite an effort. Also, they have picknickplaces within the park where one can eat his or her own meal (but you could eat and drink everywhere in the park as well).
Prices aren't that high, as some people do let you believe. Two Euros for 0.5L coke, 1.50 for French Fries so judge for yourself.
The atmosphere in the Efteling is, in my opinion, one of modesty. No screaming signs, or vivid colours, and that makes you at ease.

Don't expect many thrilling rides in the efteling, but it is one of those places in the Netherlands one must have visited.

The new attraction "pandadroom" (panda dream) is also great, it's a 3d movie with special effects. Efteling has build this together with WWF. The efteling is great especialy if you have kids, they will love it. it beats the crap out of Disneyland Paris

Don't wet yourself over it. Pandadroom ain't that great. Gotta love the great way they used Cat Stevens' "Morning Has Broken" though.

If you compare it with the "4d adventure"in Gardaland Italy then it is extremely good.
