Shane Falcone tells us about his visit to Hershey Park.

Me and my family went to hershey park Monday (24) and Wednesday (26). They have a one day, two day or three day pass. We did the two day pass. You get the full price for the park for one day and then it reduces if you do more days. It's mid to upper $30's for adults (9-64) and like half of that for seniors and younger kids. With the park tickets, you get free admission to Chocolate World and ZooAmerica (not really free, included in the tickets-most likely). I'll start my report by the Chocolate World, ZooAmerica and then Hershey Park.
CHOCOLATE WORLD
They have a 3-D show ($5 extra) with Hershey Characters. We didn't go see that. A restraurant called Hershey Cafe...i think, nice little place. We ate there twice for supper, getting away from the park. Not many people know its there. You get your money's worth at the restaurant though (not more than ($10 a person, free refills). A trolley tour of the town of hershey which cost extra. We didn't go on that but it takes you to downtown hershey (factory). They have a food court of three different food stores with an ice cream place. Not really a lot of food with the amount of money you pay for the food but at the ice cream place you get your monies worth. They have stores inside the food court and before you go in the food court. Everything that you wanted from Hershey, they have a food (chocolate) store too. The only "free" thing is the making of chocolate tour. The tour is how Milton Hershey founded the factory and the making of chocolate. The make the chocolate their and wrap it in the ride so the whole ride smells of chocolate. They give you a free sample of a Hershey Bar and they leed you to a "surprise" gift shop. CW is a short walk from the entrance/exits. The hand stamp is invisible.
ZOOAMERICA
You can get in from the outside ($7) but Hershey Park goers get in for free. The entrance is in the backside of the park. It's an 11 arce wildlife park of only North America species (no Polar Bears). The animals are kept in small cages and only NA animals which stops you from seeing all are favorite African animals.
HERSHEY PARK
First thing, the Hershey Bears, aff. Colorado Avavlanche play in the Hershey Park Arena but there moving to a new area inside the huge parking lot. The security took us a half an hour. They check every bag including camera bags. When you walk in there are a multiude of stores leading up to the carrusel (sp). Inside the circle, you can see the Hershey Characters and they have kiddie rides in there. After those rides, you can either take a left or right to go to the other rides. Hershey Park has 60+ rides with 9 roller coaster and 3 water rides. Family rides like the Bumper Cars and the Ferris Wheel are good and provide fun. My brother went on the kiddie rides and enjoyed them. The thrill rides were lots of fun. There are lots of sirvournir (sp) shops and fast food joints to blow your money on. Vending Machines are $2.50. It sprinkled a little bit on Monday and everybody left the park (not everybody but a lot of people). You get soaked on all but one of the water rides. There are 6 steel coasters, 3 of them i didn't care for. Wild Mouse, no thrills, sooperdooperlooper, boring, and a Thunder Mountain type ride but Disney does it a lot better with theming. The 3 steel ones i liked was the Great Bear, doesn't get any better, a Shuttle Loop ride, thrills. and a Water-Coaster called Roller Soaker, fun interactive-very wet on the ride and in line. The wooden ones were great, Wildcat-good ride, Lightening Racer, best and the Comet, nice old fashioned roller coaster. The raft ride, you get soaked-no drop..waterfalls, 4 of them. The one drop flume you get soak along with bystanders.
FAVORITE RIDES
Roller Coaster: Steel-Great Bear, great ride with 124 ft drop with twist, turns and loops. My only problem was that the ride picture was at the end of the ride. I rode it in the middle, third seat and first seat, which is more thrilling.
Roller Coaster: Wooden-Lightening Racer, great ride competing with another track (Lightening and Thunder). I won both times i went on, on Thunder.
Thrill Ride
Chaos-a ride that twirls you around fast-vertical and hortzontial and rocks you upside down.
Favorite Water Ride
Roller Soaker-one interactive water coaster in the northeast. You get soaked in line and on the ride. You get to swirt the people and they get to swirt you.
Family Ride
all good-can't choose
Kiddie Ride: from my brother
Tiny Timbers, a flume just for kids. A little water ride with a little drop at the end. The shows are cheesy except the dolphin and sea lion show. I think thats it. I might of forgot something.
------------------------------
This is the saftest park by roller coaster and thrill ride standards anywhere.

This goes into my favorite park after WDW's Big Four. It goes before Universal Studios. An overlooked park by some people. Go see it yourself.
They have a Hershey Musuem near the entrance but outside it ($7 extra), we didn't go but if you stay at a Hershey Hotel, you get in for free.

Robert, I can do a web page on the park if you want me to.

Hershey Park and Six Flags America are the closest parks to me so I've been to each many times. Hershey is a great park but I wouldn't say it's better than Univeral Studios.

We were there last Friday. Line for Rollersoaker was over an hour, and by looking at it, it didn't seem worth it. Everything else was great though. Lightning Racer is a lot of fun. Whether it's better than Universal, hey, who knows, but for a local park, hard to beat it.

It was the morning of July 7, 1996: I went to Hershey for the giant pavilion, called Chocolate World, with the 'factory tour' (same ride system found on World Of Motion and The Living Seas) because I -- which fanatic doesn't like chocolate today??? :>D

Wait. I just remembered.
I would recommend you go to this building no longer after its opening time because I stood in quite a long line for the 'ride portion'. I can't remember how long it was. But I CAN remember the gift shop after the ride. Bring your children! Bring your toddlers! I can feel my mouth watering for fresh-made chocolate!! Gotta go!

We went yesterday. Roller Soaker was down most of the morning for technical problems. We were able to ride in the afternoon, the front facing seats get soaked compared to the rear facing seats. You get to dump 16 gallons of water onto the onlookers on the ground, anywhere on the ride....wait till the end and get the "dry" people in line. It's a short ride, but in 90+ degree heat, it's great. You can shoot riders with water cannons from the ground as well.
The Great Bear: Wait for the front, we rode the front and the back...no comparison. It's worth the extra wait.

I said Hershey was better than Universal Studios Orlando because I went to it and hated it. I haven't been to Islands of Adventure, yet.
Roller Soaker is a long, wet but worth the waitt. No Roller Coaster except that one had a wait of more than 15 minutes unless you went in the front seat of the ride. The Great Bear was the best in the front seat.

Thanks for the info, Shane.

We are consideriding a trip there next year along with other parks in PA, such as Knoebels and a return trip to Kennywood. It sounds like it is worth a stop!

I went to Hershey Park for the first time last week. I would say it is as good as King's Dominion, but not better.

Sadly, I went with a bunch of people who don't like roller coasters, so I only got to ride 4 of them. First was the Comet. Pretty good. the first two drops were great and you got to love the shakiness throughout the ride. Next was Great Bear. It was pretty good. Unless you sit in the front, you totally can't see where you are going, though. I'd have to say Alpengeist, a similar coaster at Busch Gardens, is better than Great Bear. Roller Soaker was my favorite ride because it was such a unique experience. I got soaked beyond belief in line because almost every rider decided to dump their water on the line. The last coaster I rode was Lightning Racer and it was the best. There were so many twists and turns, and the lead between the two racing trains changed about 5 times.

It was very hot, so we rode a lot of water rides. First was Coal Cracker, a log ride. This was the lamest log ride I've ever been on. Didn't get wet at all and the drop was laughable. Next was Canyon River Rapids, and that was pretty good. There are 5 waterfalls at the end, 3 of which are completely unavoidable. Everyone gets drenched. Finally was Tidal Force, one of those boat rides with a big drop. Usually on rides like this the only ones who get wet are the people on the observation deck, but riders get absolutely drenched on this one. A 3-second nonstop pummeling of water really caught me off-guard. That was the best boat ride I've ever been on.

The rest of the rides were standard fare. Hershey Chocolate World was OK (the air conditioning was my favorite part), but it seemed like too much of an ad for me. The 3D show proves my point, although everyone else really liked it.

I didn't go to the zoo.

Overall, I'd give Hershey Park a 8.5 out of 10.

What a well-written report for someone with the nerdy name of Milhouse VanHouten!!! Is your mom still with that Pyro dude? LOL!

Chocolate World was designed as a "free" attraction to show the masses how chocolate was made. They discontinued the factory tours downtown, due to the fact the plant was old and not designed for the large number of people touring the area in a sanitary manner. They added the "4D" show this year and charge a hefty price for that show only, the simulated tour is still free.
Hershey Foods Corp. does not own Hershey Park. It is owned by a privately held company, Hershey Entertainment & Resort Co. (HERCO), which in turn is controlled by the Milton Hershey School trust, the "orphanage" that MS Hershey started. It's a great park and huge attraction for Central PA.

Whoa, what happened here? I never thought there were tours in the old building downtown. So does the simulated tour still produce real chocolate bars?

From Mike Scott

The tours at the factory (built in 1903) were discontinued in the early 1970's. There is no chocolate manufactured at Hershey's Chocolate World.

Hershey Trust MAY want to sell off Hershey Foods, but said they would retain Hershey Entertainment & Resort Company, which is the parent of HersheyPark.

Hershey brings back many memories for me. My father attended the "Boy's School", as the orphanage was called,as a child, and we started visiting the park every summer when I turned 8. I will always remember the factory tours (this was 37 years ago) and the overwhelming smell of chocolate everywhere. At the end of the tour, you got a free Hershey bar and a token to ride the roller coaster (they only had one then). That was my first coaster ride. I have always enjoyed Hershey, although I suspect it's mostly nostalgia, and it will always have a spot in my heart, no matter what they do to it. Hope everyone enjoys their trip to HP!

Hershsey Park should open a water park and name it HERSHEY SQUIRTS.

In fact, that would also be a great title for a Hershey Park children's area!

whaddya mean NO??!!

There's a $10 coupon right on the opening page to Hersheypark.com. It's part of the promotion for their new ride for next year.
