Visiting Orlando from South AfricaNeed help and advice please! Visiting from South Africa.
From Ruan Smith
We're planning on visiting Orlando in May 2010. We've chosen May as it's someone's 13th Birthday gift and also because we'd prefer the calmer months from a value for time perspective. The rest of the company are all above 20 years.Posted October 30, 2009 at 7:28 AM What is May like in Orlando? Where is the best area to stay at in Orlando? What do you suggest we do in our 12 days there, we'd hate miss out on anything? Is a full day needed per park or can more than one of some of the parks be visited on one day? What is the best way to get around? Where is the best to eat?

Ruan, since you have access to the TPI site, my best advice is to check out the older threads and you'll be able to get the answers to all your questions. All of what you want to know has been talked about in the last few months. Posted October 30, 2009 at 8:44 AM

Yeah, pretty much wander your way around TPI and you will find many great gems. Make sure to check out Top Tips. Posted October 30, 2009 at 1:56 PM To answer some of your questions, Orlando is pretty hot in May (usually around 80-90) with pretty good chance of rain around 1:30 (like clockwork). However, its a great time to go! In my opinion, these are the only "one day" parks in Orlando: Disney's Animal Kingdom, Seaworld, Universal Studios, and Islands of Adventure. Not knowing much about your group, I would say that you would need to spend some extra days at Magic Kingdom and EPCOT because there is just so much to do, see, etc. Since you will be going in May, you will be there for EPCOT's Flower and Garden Festival. Make sure to bring your cameras because the park never looks as good as during this event! Flowers everywhere! I would also recommend, since you are not from the United States, to check out Cape Canaveral where they launch the Space Shuttles in the US. It has alot of stuff and you can even touch a moon rock!!! I would recommend staying at a Disney Resort just because they give such great perks and I just personally love them! I will be writing a report about my last trip next week when I stayed at the Boardwalk, which is right in EPCOT's backyard! As for food, thats a tough question. What do you guys like to eat? Disney and Universal have insanely great food and tons of options. I will boil it down to this (again, my opinion). There are many more at the parks and I know I am really oversimplifying, but here: Magic Kingdom: Cinderella's Royal Table (more for the experience) EPCOT: Any country (except USA) especially Canada Disney's Hollywood Studios: Brown Derby Disney's Animal Kingdom: Yak and Yeti Universal Studios: Finnigeans Islands of Adventure: Mythos Seaworld: Shark's Grill.

Well, Anthony beat me to the chase, but if you can tell us a little about your group, we can even go further as far as helping you have a great time based upon your groups likes and dislikes.Posted October 31, 2009 at 7:44 AM

Got back from Florida a month ago . Im from Devon in England , I would deffinetly recomend hiring a car . As there is so much more than just the theme park's . You've got quite a few great mall's for shopping . Plus load's of great restaurant's to choose from , Outback being one of My favourites . Definetly do some map research before you go , but doesnt take long to get your bearing's when you do a few trip's out . Just having the freedom to get out and about at your leisure add's to the whole experience .Posted November 2, 2009 at 8:42 AM

LOL on the Outback! Its a chain here, but still very tasty!Posted November 2, 2009 at 3:46 PM But thats still a great point, there are plenty of great places to eat in FL. There are also plenty of places at Downtown Disney, Citywalk, and Disney Resorts that are really great and you don't need a ticket. Again, just tell us a little about your group: what you want to do and see, ages, likes and disllikes.

If you want some interesting food, try Cafe Tutu Tango. Another great, and fancier place, which is also sorta a chain (there are a bunch in the US) is Texas De Brazil. Posted November 3, 2009 at 7:50 AM As for Disney Resorts, Kouzzina by Cat Cora is great, Yachttsman Steakhouse, Big River Brewery, and Jinkos to name a few.
