Is Disney's Hollywood Studios worth the free birthday ticket?Walt Disney World: Or should I go with Epcot?
From Mark Fairleigh
I've got my free birthday admission from Disney coming up. Had planned on using it to check out Disney's Hollywood Studios for the first time, but was worried about whether it'd be worth it or not, so currently planning on hitting reliable ol' Epcot. Heard from a couple of sources that the Studios wasn't a park you could spend more than half a day due to it's small size. Thanks!Posted November 5, 2009 at 8:16 AM

Nah, you can spend quite alot of time at DHS. It is not a half day park in my opinion. Here is some things to consider: what do you want to do for your birthday? Posted November 5, 2009 at 8:23 AM DHS has alot of shows, two big thrill rides, and two "dark" rides. If you want to see shows and check out a park that you have never seen, then take the plunge and go to DHS. Go to 50s Prime Time Cafe or the Brown Derby to eat. I would give it a try, but EPCOT is great too. Its pretty much up to what you want to do.

If you're going on a day when Fantasmic! is showing you can certainly make a whole day out of it. I do every time I visit. Posted November 5, 2009 at 9:49 AM

Although, if you've never been to see Fantasmic, I consider it a must-do. It's a great show, but be sure to grab a seat early. When I visited, we got a seat right when the theater opened (usually about 90min before showtime), and two of us left the theater to get dinner. A CM gave us a pass that allowed us to come in the theater through a back entrnce next to the exit of TOT. Just a tip. You get seats and you don't waste any time by eating outside the theater.Posted November 5, 2009 at 3:45 PM

There are also Dinner packages with reserved seating. Seating is not bad, but not great either. Posted November 5, 2009 at 5:59 PM There is a great quick service by the ToT and the gate for Fantasmic. We usually eat there!

Thanks a million, gang, for all the great info and tips! Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to recheck this thread until just now. We ultimately decided to do Epcot. We'd do it tomorrow, but it's our last day and it's a tradition to spend it at USF, but we'll definitely make plans to check out Studios next year. Thanks again!!Posted November 5, 2009 at 8:38 PM

Thinking back at it, EPCOT was a good choice because of the Food and Wine Festival!Posted November 6, 2009 at 8:41 AM

Since you've never been to DHS, I would definitely recommend not missing it on your next trip to Orlando. With the best version of Tower of Terror, a fun coaster in Rock n' Roller, Toy Story Midway Mania (fast pass that one, and go first thing in the morning!), The Great Movie Ride, Star Tours and lots of good shows, DHS is rounding into a fun and worthwhile theme park. Also don't miss Walt Disney: One Man's Dream, for a history on how it all started. And Muppets 3D is a must if you've never seen it before.Posted November 10, 2009 at 11:16 PM

^Sorry, but I believe he already went to EPCOT as just last week he posted a trip report about how fun EPCOT was on his birthday.Posted November 11, 2009 at 6:29 AM

We're definitely planning on catching it next year! Besides all of your comments I've been reading several trip reports and they all share the same feelings. Next year can't come soon enough. :) Posted November 11, 2009 at 7:19 AM
