Disney's official blog has just announced that Snow White's Scary Adventures (Magic Kingdom) is closing for good on 5/31/12/. As expected, the area will be used for a Princess Meet & Greet. Disney also announced a late March opening date for (1) Dumbo, The Great Goofini Coaster and the Fantasyland Train Station.

Not so I hard a pill to swallow considering they are using the same theme to build an even better ride. Still glad I got to ride it one last time a couple weeks ago.

Thank God. That ride was awful, even for how old it was.

It's not a huge loss or tragedy. I'm really anticipating the new train coaster ride, and am not really saddened by the departure ofthe mediocre dark ride. It's just been a squeaky, unapealing ride that has little emersion to do the use of cutout figures, as oppossed to aas. IMO, it is probably the worst dark ride at Disney. The change into a new experience will be welcome!

I kind of agree with the rest of you. I'll only miss the nostalgia associated with the ride & I'm very much looking forward to the new Seven Dwarfs family coaster. It's just taking sooooo long. The Snow White ride harkens back to a time when Disney wasn't necessarily cutting edge. The Snow White ride was basically a copy (except theme) of numerous dark rides present at many USA amusement parks. Our local park, Kennywood, had several dark rides that preceeded Disneyland by a few decades & were the same basic technology(or lack of thereof). Those rides are now long retired. It's always a bit sad to see an old ride disappear (I don't think Snow White qualifies for classic status), but change & progress is what keeps the parks interesting.

Instead of wasting the space on another Meet-N-Greet they should have used this opportunity to bring Mr Toad's Wild Ride back to Orlando.

Thanks Dominick for posting the virtual tour video. It's the first time I see the new Fantasyland with so much detail. It looks great!

Disney is getting cheap with us with a meet and greet. They should bring Mr Toad or Pinnochio or Alice.

Thanks Dom, for posting a video of something on topic. ;)

The mine train will be nice (I suppose), but it won't accept small children (because it is a coaster). So they are not substitutes.

And I'd rather a 40 years old dark ride than any meet&greet!!!

Besides that, a new dark ride, even a small one, to meet the "disney standards", would cost at least 100 million. And they are giving up one that is already there for free. Why don't build the meet and greet inside the castle or in main street...

Dom: Good video. That's the type that is a real plus to the discussion columns. Thanks!

Good Wifey and I got our last ride in last trip then. Like the rest of you not heartbroken over this news. It's a cute little ride, but no better than a dark ride you'd find at a small thrill park you'd find in Myrtle Beach or some such.

This isn't great, at all. First, as someone pointed out before, the Mine Train is hardly an acceptable substitute for a dark ride, as it's not as family friendly. Small children can't ride coasters, and some people don't even like coasters. Then to replace a dark ride (fun bang for a theme park rider's buck) for a character meet & greet location??? When the fantasyland expansion is going to have character meet & greet areas that will suit the characters there? Why would I want to meet Belle at the former site of Snow White's Scary Adventures when I've got an entire Belle themed area? Similarly The Little Mermaid. Hopefully they're come to their senses and put a dark ride back in the space. I'm terribly sad to see Snow White's Scary Adventures go. I remember being scared out of my wits as a kid by it and still loving it, and then riding it the first time after the '94 refurbishment. That ride is my childhood!!! I'm gutted.

Andrea, as someone who was gutted by the closing of Jaws, my deepest sympathies. May not be a personal favorite, but every ride is someone's favorite.

Mike, I wasn't aware that Dark Knight was considered a ride.

I THINK James was being facetious with his comment (hard to tell on-line), since it certainly ain't MUCH of a ride, IM(NS)HO.

Well, I'm not sure what James meant, but I mean this: Does that piece of (family friendly censor) even qualify as a ride?

Yes Mike, you are correct (the only downside of online discussions).
