I'm thinking of a ride..........Round 3

A trivia challenge........round three......still open for all to play.....

There is only one rule. Email me your answers so that everyone can play.

I will keep a running score.

_________________________________________________

1. I’m thinking of a ride. It is now only about the flashtubes and glitterballs.

2. I’m thinking of a ride. This roller coaster could make really hard bacon.

3. I’m thinking of a ride. Nous vous détestons parce que vous n'essayez pas de parler notre langue.

4. I’m thinking of a ride. I am the Key Master.

5. I’m thinking of a ride. Odd that there is no lightning on this hill.

6. I’m thinking of a ride. It is what a blacksmith would give to amuse their own baby boy.

7. I’m thinking of a ride. If only you could use this ride to keep the park from closing.

8. I’m thinking of a ride. It would have been the Apple guys at the top if they had spent the sponsorship money.

9. I’m thinking of a ride. Pizza stops the killing.

10. I’m thinking of a ride. It is America’s longest running stage show.

11. I’m thinking of a ride. It has an element that due to timing issues should be called a “leave me hanging, bro”.

12. I’m thinking of a ride. It sounds like a way to shill energy drinks.

13. I’m thinking of a ride. Goodbye, goes the weasel.

14. I’m thinking of a ride. It is the highest roller coaster in the world.

15. I’m thinking of a ride. It also has PeeWee Herman in it, but not Star Tours. (To clarify, we are talking about Paul Rueben and not the character PeeWee Herman....and I will not accept the Studio Tour as an answer, although it might possibly be true.)

16. I’m thinking of a ride. A new ride where the goal is to get that Steve Irwin guy.

17. I’m thinking of a ride. Little Banded Goshawk.

18. I’m thinking of a ride. Not really Wooden Timber Coaster, but close.

19. I’m thinking of a ride. Wasn’t Hercules here just a moment ago? Apparently he didn’t do a good enough job because one of his monsters is back.

20. I’m thinking of a ride. A ride from a World’s Fair that ear bugged us all for nearly 50 years. Maybe I don’t want to think of that ride.

Resubmitted 15, and yes, Pee Wee use to be in the Backlot Tour, but Disney removed him after he got arrested.

From Jeff Elliott

The charges were bogus.....PeeWee is making a comeback.....and your resubmittal is still wrong.

From Dominick D

When he means the answer isn't Star Tours, it isn't either way. Trying 14 again.

I tried #20

No & no.....

......and to think that I thought these were easier than the last batch.....

From Jeff Elliott
Posted October 22, 2012 at 12:27 PM
A little hint, half of these are from the top ten list by attendance (in the right hand column of this website) or the top ten so far as the Golden Tickets are concerned.

.....and five of these are not open.

That should help you narrow these down a bit.

I'm trying 3 after figuring out what it said XD

From AJ Hummel
Posted October 22, 2012 at 2:57 PM
I just sent in guesses for roughly half of them. Personally, I think this is the hardest round yet, although that could be because I'm not that familiar with the attractions at any of the Florida parks (which occupy 7 of the top ten US parks).

From Dominick D

I'm starting to figure them put, and I just guessed 11.

Trying 4 and 10.

From Jeff Elliott

.....and that is why we don't do straight trivia around here.....it is too easy to just Google it....

From James Koehl
Posted October 22, 2012 at 7:28 PM
Google is a help, but you have to have some knowledge to know where to look. I only got 6 of them, and half of them I had to search for the exact answer based on what I already knew and a clue or two that you provided in the question. Face it, Jeff, most people in here are not as trivia knowledgable as you are about the amusement/theme park universe. We need some help.

From Andrew Dougherty

2 things

James don't fight with Jeff. He runs this thing.

And I resubmitted #4

From James Koehl
Posted October 23, 2012 at 2:12 PM
Andrew, I'm sorry if that came across as fighting, arguing or anything like that. It wasn't meant that way. Jeff is actually one of my best friends- we went to Cedar Point together this past summer, and next summer he is going to show me around his home park, the pride of Colorado, one of the greatest parks on the planet. Yes, no other than.....(drum roll)....Elitch Gardens! And he really is one of the most knowledgable people I have ever met about many things, esp. amusement park attractions.

Jeff really is a monkey- look at his photograph on his bio. Actually, he had just gotten a haircut when that picture was taken.

From Jeff Elliott

Hints on questions that haven’t been answered yet.

8. The HP guys are currently at the top of the ride and spent the sponsorship money.
9. This is a shooter ride outside of Cali-Florida but in the US.
11. This is a newer wooden roller coaster in China designed by a major manufacturer.
12. It is a ride that shares a name with an Energy Drink.
15. Paul Rueben does a character in an animated movie in the Disney library. This movie is pulled out of the mothballs every so often to roam the resorts, but it is associated with a ride. Google it and the answer should be obvious.

Hints on questions that only one person got.
1. This attraction has been guessed about twenty times on the other quizzes, so I decided to use it. Look up flashtubes and glitterballs in Wikipedia and the answer should be obvious.
2. This is a bad joke. Where does bacon come from? Can you find a ride with that in the name?
3. The language is French…..if you use a free internet translator, you will get the phrase that means something along the lines of, “We hate you because you don’t speak our language.” This is for a Cali-Florida ride.
7. The park has already closed. Based on the name of the ride, if it worked, it would be possible to keep it from happening.
10. There are no live actors in this show. The question is related to questions 13 & 20.
14. I want the highest roller coaster, not the tallest. So the answer is not Kingda Ka, although someone answered the High Roller which was a really good answer, but incorrect. Think in terms of altitude. It is a new roller coaster (well, new to them).

Also, Christopher Sturniolo gave a good hint with doing Google searches on these to see if you can find them. The questions were written to defeat that kind of attack, but apparently it works on some of them.

From Dominick D
Posted October 23, 2012 at 7:28 AM
Tried 8 and 15 (now I get it).

From Christopher Sturniolo
Posted October 23, 2012 at 8:58 AM
Also number 10 is a quote from the begining of the attraction.

From Jeff Elliott
Posted October 23, 2012 at 11:18 AM
Ok......the quiz master is wrong....

.....I admit it.....

On #8, I thought that HP sponsored Spaceship Earth and the guys working in a garage in California (at the top of the attraction) were the HP guys.....

wrong....wrong....wrong....and wrong....

Bell, AT&T, and now Siemens have sponsored the ride, and never HP......

I should have done a little more research on that one.....

.....Consider that one a bonus for all.....

From Dominick D

I'll do that!

AJ, I'm surprised you haven't gotten 1 yet. It's been guessed a million times in the past.

From AJ Hummel
Posted October 24, 2012 at 3:28 PM
^I'm probably overlooking something obvious, but I really have no idea. It's funny how some of these everyone gets but I have no clue on (usually the Florida related ones), while there are more obscure ones that I sometimes know immediately and nobody else can figure out.

I could always submit a list of everything I can think of with a strobe effect, but that would be somewhat cheap. Wait...I think I just realized what it is. Submitting now...

LOL!

AJ got it after thinking of cheap rides that have strobe effects!

A perfect score and I think we can crown a winner.

Good job! Thanks for playing.

Keep your eyes pealed for the final round....with pictures.......and I say final round, but it is only the final round if no one plays or gets very excited about it.....if we are having fun, then I say let the fun continue.....

.....oh and give me a little time to post the answers....

Answers:

1. Expedition Everest @ Disney’s Animal Kingdom – Flashtubes is another name for strobe lights. Glitterballs are also known as disco balls. Disco Yeti is my name. Can’t we just fix the #%^&#@&# thing already?

2. Steel Hawg @ Indiana Beach – This is a bad joke. Hard bacon from a steel hog.

3. Impressions de France @ Epcot – To translate, it roughly means “We hate you because you don’t try to speak our language,” which is France’s impression of the rest of the world…..and particularly Americans.

4. Gatekeeper @ Cedar Point – This is a line from Ghostbusters. “I am the Key Master.” “I am the Gatekeeper.”

5. Thunder Mountain @ various Disney parks – Where there is thunder, there should be lightning.

6. Iron Rattler @ Six Flags Fiesta Texas – Another bad joke.

7. Time Machine @ Freestyle Music Park – If only it worked, if only….

8. Spaceship Earth @ Epcot – Ok, so I goofed this one up…..

9. Gobbler Getaway @ Holiday World – This is an interesting take on a shooter ride. You aren’t actually shooting, you are calling the turkeys out of their hiding places. After finding all of the turkeys, the farmer decides he is going to save the turkeys and instead have pizza for Thanksgiving.

10. Carousel of Progress @ Disney’s Magic Kingdom – They even say it in the wind up before the show starts…..it must be right.

11. Dauling Dragon @ Happy Valley Wuhan – This roller coaster contains an element called a high five, where one coaster car can high five the other coaster car, but the way they have it timed, they are just leaving the other car hanging.

12. Full Throttle@ Six Flags Magic Mountain – Since roller coasters don’t have throttles, this seems like a sponsorship deal with the energy drink company.

13. America Sings @ Disneyland – Throughout the show the weasel shows up and says “Pop goes the weasel.” The last time he shows up, he says, “Goodbye, goes the weasel.” Since this ride has been gone for a while it seems like a fitting saying.

14. Cliffhanger @ Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park – At only 60 feet high, it is not the tallest, but since it is up in the mountains of Colorado, it makes it the highest in terms of altitude.

15. Nightmare Before Christmas overlay of the Haunted Mansion @ various Disney parks – Paul Ruebens does the voice of Lock.

16. Manta @ SeaWorld San Diego – It was actually a sting ray that got the Croc Hunter and not a manta ray, but I don’t think that stopped anyone from guessing it correctly.

17. SheiKra @ Busch Gardens Tampa Bay – SheiKra is derived from a vertical diving hawk called a shikra, also known as a Little Banded Goshawk.

18. Wodan Timbur Coaster @ Europa Park – It looks a lot like Wooden Timber Coaster, but it actually means "take your clothes off and party" in German.

19. Hydra the Revenge @ Dorney Park – A wooden roller coaster named Hercules used to be where Hydra is now. Hydra is one of the monsters that Hercules killed.

20. It’s A Small World @ various Disney parks – An ear bug is a song that you can’t get out of your head. There is no worse ear bug than It’s A Small World.

From Mike Gallagher

I would have gotten Gatekeeper, but I didn't think we were including rides and attractions that don't exist yet :(

Ditto for Full Throttle. And Iron Rattler..although that's a grayer area.
