Ok, so as we all know, DHS will probably go through a huge expansion in the near future. Here is how I would change it:
*Demolish the Backlot Tour and Lights, Motors and turn it into a copy of the overwhelmingly successful CarsLand from DCA, except add an extra ride or something.
*Get rid of that god awful sorcerer hat and maybe move it to the Fantasmic stage.
*Around 2008 we saw the signage of Hollywood Studios change into a 1920's style sign. So possibly make the entrance a Buena Vista Street with Carthay as the park icon and move One Man's Dream there to Vista Street.
*Demolish all of Animation Courtyard to make a Monsters, Inc. Coaster as sort of a mini entrance to Pixar Place.
*Turn the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular into an Indy dark ride like the one in Disneyland.
*Put a Mulan show where Beauty and the Beast is (now that it's incorperrated in new fantasyland).
*Remove Muppet Vision 3D and put a Muppet dark ride there (Under the assumption that there is enough room and make the gift shop into another room in the ride).
*Turn the lake in Echo lake into Crush's Coaster from Paris, but still keep some water to make an undersea effect.
*And finally, turn the American Idol Experience into an Incredibles simulator. I mean c'mon, Idol is so outdated.
Disney, if you can do this, DHS will finally be a full-day park
Now I agree, DHS needs some work but how much money do they need to spend in the park.. There are some rally great attractions in this park, RNR coaster, TT, Toy Story… Adding Cars Land would be nice.. But you have to remember, Disney cannot simply add too much at once.
There are budgets and planning that will take a lot of effort. And as long as the park still has many visitors, they will not add many things at one time…
I believe they should make an Incredible’s 2 movie then, add an attraction for it.
Still my favorite Disney park and the home of my third favorite ride of all time (ToT). they do need more than six actual rides in the park, however. MK is too tame, Epcot has very little in the way of thrills and I would rather his Busch Gardens Tampa than AK any day.
Mainly because BG has QuickQueue and you can get more riding done in a few hours than at any Disney park.
Disney needs a fifth thrill park that has high tech rides geared for young adults and teens, but that will never happen.
I head what you're saying with the budget thing and all but remember, this is basically my dream of it. Carsland and Buena Vista would alone be over 1Billion. It's just how I would love to see it someday.
The park needs attractions that only it has. Not simply duplicate what's great elsewhere. The only exception would be if they came up with their own unique Indiana Jones:Adventure ride. I for one would love to see some more Indiana Jones/Star Wars in the park. Back Lot Tour is sure to be on it's way out. If I want Cars Land, I'll go to DCA, so maybe something else.
Here's what DHS should resonably have added to the park: 1) A show to replace Beauty and the Beast, if Disney is feeling it, enclose the theater and add a balcony for extra seating. 2) A Pixar Land that takes the place of the Backlot Tour and adapts Toy Story Mania, the Honey I... playground, and Lights Motors Action. The whole area needs to be immersive with minilands per say (to the scale of the current Pixar Area). The playground can be rethemed to Bugs Life and maybe a kiddie flat ride could be added. Lights Motors Action could use a Cars makeover. An Incredibles E-ticket would be nice if they went all out to build it ($150 million budget?). Finally, a Monsters Inc C-ticket dark ride that is different from the others should top it off. If funds allow, an extra flat ride would be nice. 3) Fix the Great Movie Ride. 4) Down with the Hat. 5) Make the area surrounding Star Tours ( Including Sound theater and backlot restaurant) into a Star Wars land with a flat ride, show, and new restaurant. If Disney's getting ambitious, expanding the land behind Star Tours to include a new E-ticket and more.
If Disney is really on a budget (say $450-500 million), they could do the bare minimum listed above and they'd have a thriving full day park. If they want to spend the money, more like $8-900 million (heck, make it 1.2 billion!)and maybe throw in an animation or muppets dark ride, then this could be the best park in Orlando.
I totally agree with you about the backlot tour. Make it into cars land but with another cool attraction. Make lights motor action about cars.
Pixar place is really cool but only has one ride some how but the crush's coaster there and monster inc coaster that had been rumored since 2008 to be put in the park.
Add one more E ticket attraction doesn't matter if that make some kind of star wars theme ride or incredibles but have one more ride and the park would be good.
I read this not too long ago, but the Monsters Inc Coaster rumors date all the way back to 2001. Originally it was planned to be in both DCA and DHS, with the DCA version opening first then clone it to DHS. Plans were scrapped for the DCA version to make it an exclusive. And here we are today. Disney, just greenlight the thing already.
I agree to get rid of the backlot tour, its way boring compared to the one at Universal Studios! But instead of adding a Cars Land, why not incorporate Marvel? Create an entire land dedicated to them. That would be awesome.
Disney can’t use Marvel because of manning rights being owned by Universal… Cars land would be just fine…. Someone mentioned a Death Star attraction –Now that sounds wonderful…!!
In and of itself "The Hat" is fine. It's just the location we all question. Perhaps they can relocate it to sit atop the iconic Spaceship Earth structure at Epcot?
Yeah, I don't hate the hat, but I do hate the location. The Chinese Theater is such a beautiful facade for The Great Movie ride, and such an awesome weenie totally in theme with the idea of the park, that the hat just ruins what the imagineers originally had intended. For me, that is the Cinderella Castle for that park, and I would love to see it once again unobstructed.
As for where to place the hat, if they choose to move it and not just demolish it, I say the best place would be outside of the actual park where they set up the Christmas tree. Space is already limited inside the park, so no sense in trying to squeeze in a giant pin trading depot elsewhere instead of adding another real attraction. This spot just beyond the gates looks to be big enough, and it would really make for a great weenie in this new location for people coming in on the ferries as well as the busses and cars, and walking in towards the gates. You could still have it set up to be a retail area, and promote it as the parks icon. Then the studios could set up their X-Mas tree in the hub every year where the hat used to be. It always felt odd to me, having the parks tree outside of the gates. Anyway, that's what I would do, if saving the hat is to be a priority.

First thing to do is consolidate lands:
Commisary Lane is not a land, and a land must contain more than one attraction (and photo spots do not count)
Now for realistic solutions:
Cantina Bar: pays for itself with right beverage and glassware in the first year
Honey I Shrunk the kids rethemed for Incredibles playground and inlude into Pixar Place
Finally make the Monsters Inc Roller Coaster include into Pixar Place
Retheme great movie ride to go thru Disney Classics that are not featured elsewhere on property with attractions
Artistocats, 101 Dalmations, Jungle book and such and therefore ride becomes more timeless and configure entrance through the side to Animation Courtyard and leave the theater front for a mini museum/ photo ops after removing the hat
The problem with using just Disney/Touchstone/Miramax movies in the Great Movie Ride is...
and I'm sorry to have to point it out...
they don't make many "great" movies.
A cursory glance at the top 100 films listed on imdb's Top 250 (not the greatest barometer, but whatever) yields the following films that are Disney owned:
Pulp Fiction Toy Story 3 Wall-E The Prestige Reservoir Dogs The Lion King Multiple Star Wars films Raiders, though it's unclear if Disney owns those
So...yeah. Take out the animated films and take out Star Wars and you're basically left with a Quentin Tarantino ride with a side helping of one of Nolan's lesser films.
Which, in my opinion, could be the greatest ride ever.
Not to mention these films have either won or been nominated for Best Picture:
No Country for Old Men Good Will Hunting Shakespeare in Love Chicago The English Patient Pulp Fiction Star Wars Raiders of the Lost Ark American Graffiti Beauty and the Beast Mary Poppins Gangs of New York The Aviator The Hours Toy Story 3 Up Dead Poet's Society Lincoln War Horse The Cider House Rules Finding Neverland Chocolat In the Bedroom Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World
Yeah, I'd say Disney doesn't make many great movies.
A Quentin Tarintinio ride done right would be ultraviolet and very profane. It would be AMAZING!!! Now I wish Disney would do that. But they won't and never will.
And, just like the imdb top 250, that's a terrible list of films you'd want to base a ride around.
Though who wouldn't just be enchanted as their ride vehicle passes through the scene from Good Will Hunting where the younger Affleck is chastised for what he's about to do to a baseball glove...
If you based TGMR around those films it would certainly be possible. Here's my all Disney GMR:
Footlight Parade gets replaced by Chicago Singin' in the Rain gets replaced by an extended Mary Poppins section The Public Enemy ges replaced by Good Wll Hunting The gangster take over gets replaced by Pulp Fiction, and the vehicle will be taken over by Ringo or Honey Bunny The western scene gets replaced by No Country for Old Men, and Anton takes over the vehicle Alien gets replaced by Star Wars Indiana Jones stays but extends into the Anubis room I don't know what to replaced horror with Tarzan gets replaced by Gangs of New York, and this will be where you get your host back. The room will fill with smoke to hide the transition. Casablanca gets replaced by The Aviator. Fantasia gets replaced by Up Wizard of Oz stays the way it is (yes, it's not a Disney film, but they're starting a franchise with it) The ending scene will have AAs of actors and directors standing beside your car while the clip show plays.

I honestly think there's nothing wrong with DHS,but they need to add a high-tech attraction if they want to atracct more crowds
The only problem with the all Disney ride is all the R rated content. On order to be faithful to Pulp Fiction. Quite a bit a profanity would have to be used. Not to mention the violent content. And I say Horror stays just so the genre is represented.
Well, Alien is rated R and it's currently in the ride... The way I'm thinking a Pulp Fiction scene would work out is on the right hand side have the Gold Watch scene, and on the left have the diner robbery. The gold watch can be easy to edit and the actors for the diner won't swear. Simple as that. Speaking of gold watches, I wonder if Christopher Walken is getting one for his 70th birthday today ;)
Keep the Grauman's facade. Gut the interior. Make it into a real movie theater. Create a 4D film and use the theater to host premiers and special events.
True Alien is rated R but is pretty tame by today's standards. Pulp Fiction just wouldn't be Pulp Fiction with all the swearing and violence. Those are Tarintion's trademarks. Besides I don't think those two scenes would represent the movie to well.
I just came back from Orlando and visiting DHS. As a Disneyland regular(and west coaster)I found DHS severely lacking in real entertainment. The park is somewhat similar to CA Adventure. Rockin Rollercoaster was the best thing there along with TOT. Everything else seemed kinda bland and boring. The park just felt very "cold." What's odd is that it felt like a complete version of California Adventure but at the same time it felt lacking. It definitely needs a Disney type thrill ride at least. I'm not saying duplicate Racers, but they should bring a Pixar related family ride. Something thrilling with the Incredribles perhaps.
What baffles me most is that The greatest icon of Hollywood doesnt even exist! Where is The Hollywood Sign? There is so much they could do. While Pixar is great, Disney has so much material they could use that has been neglected. Star wars is Great but Epcot could use much of Lucas Films help. Move Star Tours to Take over The Old Wonders of Life Pavilion. Turn a major section of Future World in To a Star Wars Spaceland, The oppiste side could be a Julves Vern type land. World Showcase could benifit from Disney attractions never built but planned. Example, Indiana Jones would fit perfectly in a Peru Pavilion, Pinochio could take up space in Italy, Mary Poppins or Alice could have attractions in The UK. Ratouille in France? But The studios needs theme to correct the loss of production. Major rides and e ticket attractions are the only real fix. I hate to say it but even throwing in some roller coasters that may not be heavyily themed, cough, cough; Screamin might do the trick for awhile.

I know it is just a TV show, but who would ever walk out on such unadulterated, absolute genius? That guy deserves an all expense paid, week long Disney Cruise for his obvious love of the latest and greatest Disney-owned franchises. Amazing.
