Rumors emerged about a new King Kong ride at Universal Florida. Kongfrontation closed in 2002 because of unknown reasons. Orlando Weekly reported that disaster will go and the king will come back. Check out this Orlando Weekly blog for more about the ride.

I'd hate to see Disaster go.... but it's a one time ride per vacation for the most part. If this turns out to be true, Kong better be awesome.

Sorry to rain on the rumor parade ... but ...

First off, the article referenced was from last June ... Five months ago. And since then there's been no real credible reports that Orlando Kong is in the works.

Second, I'm not so sure that Universal is going to continue to invest in USF and leave IOA behind. Think about it this way: Despicable Me, Springfield, Transformers, Gringott's and Diagon Alley. Meanwhile IOA's most substantial recent expansion was the Wizarding World of Harry Potter which opened three and a half years ago. I could be dead wrong, but it seems to me that IOA would get the next new gate crasher.

Third, the source for the Orlando Weekly Kong is coming story is OrlandoUnited.com regular “HateToFly”.

Now if you visit the site and review what HTF has posted, you have to take his (or her) content with a grain of salt. By his (or her) own admission: "I also want to point out that everything I say is speculation based on information from anonymous sources. Everything is strictly on a no-name basis and I have no inside knowledge and never have."

Further, with all due respect, HTF is also the source that predicted a lagoon show was planned for IOA. So ...

But (again) I could be wrong. We could get Kong.

As much as I love Universal, I'm not up on all the latest rumors. I would have to agree that IOA will get a Comcast cash infusion before anything new goes into the sister park.

They have plenty of room where the unused stadium now sits to put in something new, but since they can't use Marvel characters, it would have to be Toon Lagoon related to keep the islands flowing or something has nothing to do with neither, like the Agro Circus.

That is just one huge dead area that I hate walking through from either side...

Just a quick update: In October, 'Hate To Fly' has switched his/her prediction and now indicates that the Kong attraction is rumored to go into IOA next to Jurassic Park.

I'll believe it when I see it, but a Kong attraction near JP makes a certain amount of sense. Kong fighting the T-Rex was a great sequence in the Jackson remake. Still, probably just wishful thinking...

Depending on which Hate To Fly rumor you are embracing, the attraction may end up in IOA.

It makes more sense for Comcast to put a new attraction in IOA. USF will be busy enough with Diagon Alley coming online. I was surprised by the smaller crowd at IOA-Potter this October when we were there. IOA needs something new.
