SFMM Visit in Dec/JanSix Flags Magic Mountain: Visit to SFMM. What do I need?
From Joey HuaHey guys, I plan to visit SFMM between Dec 29-January 4. I was thinking about January 1st, since it is in the middle of the weekday. Will there be a lot of people during that day/week I plan to go? Do I need to get a Gold Flash Pass?

I do not plan to go on X2 and the kiddie rides, what is a recommended order of rides that I should go on?

From AJ HummelCrowds can be highly variable at that time of year, but I'd expect it to be busy. I would definitely recommend budgeting for a Flash Pass, but don't buy one until you get there and determine you need one. Either way, ride Full Throttle before doing anything else as it is right at the entrance and draws a huge crowd for the whole day (and is not available on Flash Pass).

After Full Throttle, I would recommend doing the coasters in the following order if you decide not to buy a Flash Pass:
You'll also want to do Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom. Ride it either after Goliath or before/after Colossus and Scream! None of the other non-coaster attraction are a must ride, but if you want to ride some of the smaller rides feel free to do so when convenient after completing the headliner coasters (aka after Tatsu in the above list).
Any particular reason you don't care about riding X2? While it may not be the best the park has to offer, it is an excellent ride and everyone should try it at least once.
From Joey HuaThanks for the response!

If I arrive early, before the amusement park opens, how will I know if there will be a lot of people that are going to be at the park.
From AJ HummelGet to the park 30 minutes early. Before opening, everybody waits in a plaza outside the gates, and you can use the crowd in this plaza to judge the crowds in the park. My general rule of thumb is this: if the lines reach the large planter in the center of the plaza, it MAY be busy. If the lines reach Hurricane Harbor's entrance, it WILL be busy. Additionally, time your wait for Full Throttle. If it takes you 45 minutes or more when you go there first thing in the morning, I would seriously consider getting a Regular or Gold Flash Pass (don't get Platinum...it isn't worth the price and everybody will hate you when you take their seat).

From Joey HuaOk great thanks. We actually changed our visit date to December 29(Sunday), will there be any difference in crowd from my original date January 1st?

From AJ HummelHard to say whether December 29th will be better or worse than January 1st. Generally, weekends are more crowded than weekdays but the holiday throws a kink in there. If I had to guess, I would say Sunday will be more crowded, but not by too much. Honestly, if you're willing to buy a Flash Pass if necessary it doesn't matter what day you visit as even the regular Flash Pass will allow you to get on every coaster in one day (get regular if you just want to ride everything, get gold if you want a lot of re-rides). Of course, don't get a Flash Pass until you've judged the crowds and determined that you need one (if the average wait is over 30 minutes or any ride (except X2 or Full Throttle) is over 60 minutes I highly recommend one if you don't visit the park often).

From Joey HuaThank you AJ for the information! I will definitely keep in mind of how to judge the crowd population with your tips!

From Sarah MeeksYou should really go on X2.

From Lisa ClarkAfter riding all those other FAB coasters you should end your day with X2! It's a unique ride, and if you can handle all those others there that tower above X2 you can handle it. Never say never. See how you feel later in the day.
