Backpacks/slings at Universal
Could someone please explain how the lockers work at Universal please? Thanks.
My husband and I are heading to Universal on Thursday, leaving Sunday. My question concerns backpacks, I have a sling that I like to wear to keep my money, camera etc.
I think I am understanding that you can't take bags with you on certain rides. Do the lockers they provide lock?
We are staying at one of the Universal Hotels so we have by pass line tickets, will these work for the Harry Potter ride too?
Thanks everyone, just registered and excited to read all the great information

Hello and welcome to theme park insider
i think with staying at a universal resort you get into the park an hour early which will help you get on Harry Potter, they have lockers at entrance of park and at some of the attractions, Can't remember off hand how much these cost though and they lock
Lockers are free
Lockers do cost money for water rides, such as Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls at Islands of Adventure.
Lockers for rides that do not allow loose objects, the coasters and MIB and HP's FJ
ARE FREE for a LIMITED TIME while your on the ride if you over stay that time it does cost
There are other lockers in the front of the park also
Some rides will let you wear "fanny packs"
Robert has summed it up very nicely. Just like at Six Flags, they are afraid you are going to drop something. Universal gives you the lockers for free, Six flags does not....
Ultimately, it depends on how big your "sling" or "fannypack" is. A descrete bag that looks more like a belt or is flat enough to be covered over by a t-shirt or jacket is usually fine. From a safety perspective, it all comes down to whether or not the bag will detract from the ability of the safety harness to work properly. Of course the bag needs to be small enough to allow the restraint to close completely, so you might want to check a test seat before going through the line. Of course, there is always some inconsistancy in enforcing the procedures, so don't be surprised if someone does stop you and request that you place your bag in the locker, especially if it cannot be descretely worn.
I find Universal to be a very accomodating park for guests with bags, and their free locker rental policy is a great perk. It's actually easier just to use a full-size backpack and take advantage of the lockers instead of trying to try to stuff everything into a fannypack. Slingpacks are a bit different, and because they aren't as descrete, you're liable to be asked to remove it at just about every major attraction with an individual restraint system if you're not wearing it under a jacket or shirt.
Sorry it took me so long to respond. Thank you for all your responses I really appreciated it. We had a great time, just far too short for my liking.
At Universal I found the locker system pretty cool where they assigned lockers by your thumbprint. Twice, it did not recognize my thumb so had to find someone to help but luckily I remembered the locker numbers.
Thanks again, I will continue to keep up to date with the forums until my next Orlando fix.
I'm having the same issue too
So,person at the first comment, your'e not alone

You can't bring any bag on to any ride. All the rides give you a free locker and they do lock so you will be good.
