Walt Disney World: Need help with the details of my New Years Eve Proposal in WDW

Hello theme park enthusiasts!

So here'e the deal, my girlfriend and I will have been dating two years by this coming New Years Eve, and I want to make it a special one. I'm planning on proposing at midnight during the fireworks while standing on Main Street facing the castle. Now the only thing I'm unsure of are the finer details. If I should say something or just drop to a knee a few seconds before midnight and asking her to marry me when the fireworks start going off. So any insight and other suggestions would be great :)

Hi Rusty, congratulations!

There is nothing on earth like Magic Kingdom fireworks on NYE. They are truly the very best. But because of that, the park is a wall to wall MESS of people. Be prepared for the park being closed to capacity before noon, excruciatingly long wait times for anything you try to do all day, etc. Probably the most important thing you should also consider is that Main Street usually closes as well, and all traffic is diverted through bypasses in backstage areas behind either side of the street. This happens about 4-5 hours before fireworks begin. After that, of you are lucky enough to get a spot on Main Street, be prepared to be very up close and personal with thousands of your closest friends without a lot of personal space. Last year on NYE was truly the busiest day EVER at Magic Kingdom.

I hope this helps. Have you considered booking a room at the Polynesian or Grand Floridian and maybe watching from the beach? Still a great show, super romantic, but a LOT less people and headache. Good luck!

Hi Rusty, first of all good luck on your upcoming proposal.

I second Sarah's above comments. Main Street is going to be extremely busy and anything you may wish to say might not be heard properly. Perhaps look at a reservation at a Disney restaurant around the time the fireworks would be? The California Grill, is pricey but would make an ideal spot to propose in an intimate environment, great fireworks viewing and without the hoards of people.

If you want to be in the park itself, maybe look into whether there will be any Desert parties that day - this will be a much quieter area than Main Street.

Well her and I went last year for NYE and decided that this year we were going to go to get a spot on Main Street at like 8-9 and just sit and talk, I told her I'd go get us ice cream :) I also want to plan to get two "Just Engaged" buttons from City Hall. But I liked the idea of Main Street after a nice dinner (I'm gonna get reservations at Be Our Guest since we are both HUGE Beauty and the Beast fans) But she doesn't know any of this. What I was thinking was not really saying too much, since we'll both be tired from being in the park all day, but simply dropping to a knee at 5 or 6 in the countdown to midnight and just asking her to marry me. If I get the timing right, I'd like to just finish saying "Will you marry me?" as the fireworks start

Although the proposal during firework sounds great, I think it might be a little too crowded... What if you don't get enough room? Or she can't hear you/you can't hear the answer?

Why not do it at the Be our guest restaurant instead? It looks pretty amazaing and it would be easier to organize... and I'm pretty sure you could plan something in advance with the castmembers there (like having great seats/view and organize the surprise).

And then... you go and watch the fireworks together.

Well I looked into doing Cinderella's Royal Table but that was like $400 so I'm looking to save a little bit of money. We have family that are buying us the tickets and I think she'd really love it to happen during the fireworks because then it seems more out of the blue and surprising

I havent seen anything on being able to set something up there. I was pretty set on doing it during the fireworks
