Accidents Involving Injury at Darien Lake

Official U.S. federal and state data on theme park accidents is almost nonexistent. That's why Theme Park Insider users are creating this visitor-maintained database of theme park accidents--to give public at least some information about attraction safety records.

7/10/1992 - Ranger - Submitted by robert on 5/3/2003

The lap bar failed, leaving the rider to spin around the ride vehicle unsecured. The operator shut down the ride, but not before the rider incurred broken ribs, torn pelvic ligaments and other internal injuries. (Incident confirmed via documentation provided by the victim.)

    While riding the mind eraser my head has been getting jerked alot. It was really rough and it sort of gave me an earache and bruses.It was very rough and harsh

    I had a season pass for '08, and live only 45 mins. away in a suburb of Buffalo. That happened to me the first couple of times on it that season. So yes, this happens alot. The seats are designed to do that so that your ear gets hurt instead of your neck snapping. If you want to keep this from happening to you, just make sure to keep your head all the way back against the headrest. -- Submitted by cofdeath on 12/9/2008

    Age of victim 60 yrs... Injuries-Back, left hip & left leg pain, left hip & left leg tissue and nerve damage...Attendent did not secure the harness properly after closing the lap gate... Consequently after the first dip, I was floppong around like a rag doll, hanging on & banging against the lap gate...

    7/12/1999 - Superman Ride Of Steel - Submitted by sabres22 on 7/24/2007
    A Heavy Man was thrown from the superman and suffered serious injuries. He was thrown from ride because of weight lap bar didn't close propperly. Date Is a guess. don't know date of when. i only know it was in 1999 the first year the superman was open.

    During the 2002 Kingdom Bound event at Darien Lake my family and I were in the Looney Tunes Seaport when a child was injured on what I believe was the Bugs Carrot Cans. A boy who looked to be about 8 years old fell out of one of the cars. The ride operator immediately stopped the ride and emergency personnel were there within minutes. The child was carried off on a stretcher but he did not appear to have any serious injuries. Park personnel closed the ride for the rest of the day.

    the predator at darien lake is a horrible ride especially for small people, from the first drop i was slammed around and screaming in pain all the way through from the whiplash/neck injuries i sustained .DO NOT GO ON THIS IF YOUHAVE PROBLEMS BEING JOSTLED AROUND ON ROLLERCOASTERS . i currently have about a 1" radius of movement on my neck and constant pain.
