Tom Sawyer's Island

Playground

About Tom Sawyer's Island

Now called "Pirates Lair on Tom Sawyer Island," Disneyland's put a Pirate overlay on the classic playground for kids, where folks can run around and blow off steam built up from a morning of waiting in queues elsewhere in the park.

The biggest change is in the cave, which now features more detail, as well as a pirate audio-animatronic. Spend a few moments with him to see the full effect.

Other highlights include a walk-through treehouse, shipwreck play area, a barrel bridge, a suspension bridge and plenty of trails to explore.

Note that the only way on or off of Tom Sawyer Island is by raft, and you can face a few minutes' wait to get back on busy days.

Really nice for resting parents and restless kids. Even fun for older people! - Sam C

The POTC addition to the island is definitely a good way to get more people to visit the island, but I loved the Tom Sawyer theme. Classic books. Pirates of the Carribean was a smash movie series, so Disney had a reason to add a Pirates theme. More great attention to detail in everything on the island. =D - Sarah E

This place is pretty cool. It's a fun place for kids who are tired of waiting in lines to run around. - Chloe !

It's a fun place to explore. - Erin : )

Should have been left the way it was...without the Pirates. - Wilfredo Alvelo

Pirate's Lair has helped to breathe life back into the island again--nice work. - Chuck Campbell

Kids love it and people of a certain age (like me) love it too. It recalls fond memories of a bygone age when we , as kids, made our own entertainment. Twain's delightful adventures resonate here and , for that reason, I'm not sure if the "pirates" additions are a good thing. It devalues Sawyer's Island and risks overkill for "Pirates" into the bargain. If a thing ain't broken then don't fix it. Oh ...and bring back Aunt Polly's picnic bags too. - Rob P

DA NEW PIRATE STUFF IZ KOO BUT I DINK DA REHAB STILL WOULD OF BEEN NICE WITOUT IT. PIRATEz IZ GETTIN OVERATED AT DISNEY I MEAN KUM ON. STILL NICE PLACE 2 RELAX. IS A LIL BETTER DOUGH BUT NOT 2 MUCH HAS BEEN ADDED BUT DAT 1 CAVE. - Anthony Hill
