Captain EO reviews
Theme Park Insider readers offer their ratings and reviews for Captain EO, a 4d movie in Future World - Imagination at Epcot.
Written by Robert Niles
The Michael Jackson musical film returns to Epcot, for what Disney says will be a limited engagement.
Considering this was made in the 80s, if you go into this expecting top of the line, jaw dropping special effects... well, shame on you. The film opened to a lot of fanfare at Disneyland in 1986, had a big premiere and what not. It hasn't aged well, but that's actually what makes it so great. This 3D film is hysterical, fantastic, and I love every cheesy minute of it. I'll be sad when this disappears from Disney parks. - Megan Walsh
The entire thing was terrible, someone I sat next to hated it so much, that he threw his 3-D glasses in the lake out front! In fact, my dad and I are going to see country bear jamboree and captainEO on the same day and decide which is worse!!!!!! - Gehrig Ewing
This movie showcases Michael Jackson at his peak. For everyone that has a problem with the special effects: please remember that the film is almost 30 years old. It was absolutely cutting edge when it was new, and accomplishes a lot with almost no CGI. It is a tribute to something from the past. If you see it in that light, and with appreciation for all that Michael Jackson accomplished (and not just the sad final years of his life), and you will really enjoy it. I think it's awesome, and both songs ("We Are Here to Change the World" and "Another Part of Me") are classics, recorded between the albums "Thriller" and "Bad". - Jonah Sirota
I hate to say this, but this is by far the worst attraction Epcot has to offer. Even if you are a fan of Michael Jackson and/or George Lucas. The movie itself has cheap and cheesy effects (even for the time it was produced), the writing and acting is awful, the indoor effects are way too loud and scary. Honestly, I can't think about anything what I like about it, although I know some consider it as a classic. - Chris W.
Amusing, and worth seeing if you have time. 7/10. - David L.
A must see if you're a Michael Jackson fan ( like me ), everyone else should probably skip it. The video quality didn't hold up well after all this time, and the 3D is also pretty bad. 8/ 10 for MJ fans 3/ 10 for non fans. - Tim Taylor
This limited engagement needs to end now. A must miss any day. Only rode this because Future World East ( Test Track, Mission:SPACE, Universe of Energy) closed at 3 pm that day. - Justin Knight
What was Disney thinking? Seriously, I miss "Honey, I Shrunk the Audience". This show seems old, boring and is not worth the wait. - Jose Carlos Mahbub
Captain B.O. A terrible call back to a time that should never be called back to. - Sean Huckel
My group wandered into the queue for Captain EO as we were disappointedly exiting The Land upon finding out that Soarin' was down for the day. We had no idea what Captain EO was, and after we left... We still had no idea what it was. First thoughts: "What just happened to me?" It is some strange combination of Star Wars, a Lady Gaga music video, and Michael Jackson dancing with Muppets in very outdated 3-D. I guess this attraction is here as a form of nostalgia, but I don't see how it fits in at Epcot, and it's really just kind of cheesy. It was fun to laugh about our mutual confusion afterwards, though. - Renee Michelle
1/10 - One word... Pa-the-tic - James Wimbury
In light of personal allegations and the facts surrounding his death, I do not think anything Michael Jackson related belongs anywhere on Disney property. Outside of that the film is just not good. - Mark Hollamon
I'm a bit embarrassed for Geo. Lucas on this one. It's corny and poorly scripted. Even Michael Jackson can't save this one although when he starts dancing, my criticism diminishes greatly. - Becky Wheeler
