Log RideFlume rideAbout Log RideOriginally the Calico Log Ride, this was one of the country's first log flumes. The ride takes you up and through an old west sawmill, with interior scenes featuring both Old West nighttime vistas as well as total darkness. Finally, you emerge from the mountain down a waterfall, into the splash zone below. If this sounds familiar to Disney fans, it should. This is the attraction that Disney imagineers copied, almost to the letter, in building Splash Mountain. Think of Splash without the music and Song of the South critters, and you've got Knott's Log Ride. -- Last edited by Robert Niles [Update this description | Read previous versions] Photos from Log RideSafety
Readers' Opinions
This is a great flume ride, and unlike the inaccurate description above, it is actually first flume ride ever (John Wayne and his son rode it at its opening). All others have copied this one. The animatronics and scenes are quite good, though not Disney of course. Easily one of the best rides in the park and one of the best flume rides anywhere, it shots through the water pretty quickly. - Julia Xia Its a fun family ride and it's really nicely decorated at Christmastime. - Chloe ! Its a fun, family ride, but not worth an hour wait. - Kathryn Bonner I love this ride! It is very fun, especially the drop. - Sarah Meeks A fun log flume, the one that set the standard for all to follow. Ride for the historical significance, at least, but with one of the higher hourly capacities among Knott's thrill rides, this is an excellent choice for riding mid-day. (And the thrill isn't that intense, either. It's a very inviting family ride.) - Robert Niles I know its original and all but, it needs an update. - Nicholas Kalscheuer 7/10 I went on it with my mom, my brother Flynn, my friend Val, his mom, everyone except the dads went. It had a cool miner setting but only one drop. - Jack Borgeson This was definitely the first flume ride in Southern California, and may have been the first in the country. Despite never having been updated over the decades, it holds up well and is still an enjoyable ride. Nice theming, good drop at the end, just a fun experience all the way around. - Joseph Boone A wonderfully done, low-tech flume ride. One of the best! - Sarah E It's not a Disney knock-off. This was built before Splash Mountain. - Greg Shilton Another masterful example of fabulous and detailed theming, this is flat-out the best damn classic-style log-ride anywhere! Sure, Splash Mountain is splashier, but it all started right here, folks. And it truly does feel like a journey through an authentic saw-mill and a nocturnal pine forest filled with wild-life. And though there's not a huge amount of animation to the rides' various inhabitants, you're truthfully gliding along too quickly to really notice anyway. Admittedly a bit low-tech compared to the state-of-the-art Disney equivalent, this is still the ultimate ride of its particular kind -- i.e. a good old-fashioned flume. Skip this at your peril! - Paul Clemens
