6/1/2004 - Elephant Encounter - Submitted by thenemesis97 on 6/2/2004

A trainer at an amusement park was critically injured Tuesday when he was gored by an elephant, officials said. Patrick Chapple, 39, was standing next to the 7,000-pound African elephant at Six Flags Marine World when she knocked him down and gored him, said Fire Department spokesman William Tweedy. Chapple's abdomen was pierced but he was alert and talking when paramedics arrived, Tweedy said.

A woman died after riding the Monkey Business teacup style ride. It appears that it was the result of brain bleeding possibly triggered by the ride.

    6/25/2005 - Hammerhead - Submitted by mahelani on 9/10/2005
Our daughter went on the ride with her Uncle and on the third revolution, experienced an excruciating headache. She got off the ride and was then carried by her uncle to us (her parents). After sitting for ten minutes, we continued to walk through the park when our daughter became sick. She went home with her father and uncle, continued to get sick three more times and was taken to the hospital later on that night. Our daughter had a 4-cm brain bleed and lost motion on her right side. She spent a week in the hospital, 4 of those days in ICU, and the rest of the summer going through physical therapy to regain movement in her right arm and leg.

My husband and were sitting in the very back of the train waiting for our ride to take off. Two of my kids were on the incoming train. I turned to wave to them as they were coming in. I could see they were coming in way to fast. I could also hear allot of comotion on the platform. The people waiting to get on the ride and one of the employee could see that the incoming train was coming in so fast it was going to slam into the back of the waitng train. Sure enough, thats just what it did. The operator was "busy" talking to someone out side of her booth, she didn't see it coming. When she realized what happen, she put her hand over her mouth and started to laugh!!! After just a moment, she told us they would be closing the ride and that we would need to get off. No one asked if anyone was hurt, and no one botherd to take down names. I called OSHA, I am waiting to get a report from them. The employees running the ride that day did a VERY poor job following through with safty guid lines!!!

I fell flat faced in the Shark Experience--the motor must have stopped, or something. I walk normally, and I don't believe it was my fault.

  • Follow-up:
We were stuck in the heat for aproximately 3.5 hours. The ride was stopped with us upside down. After an hour and a half my guts couldn't take any more and I threw-up all over the boy sitting next to me, ruining his Air Jordans and his Dallas Cowboys satin sweatpants. Personally I think the ride was intolerable/unsafe and I was ready to whoop someone's ass when they finally let me of the thing. -- Submitted by lwhespel on 2/23/2004
