Reader reviews of Great American Scream Machine
Not as bad as I expected. For an Arrow coaster. It does nedd to be replaced though. You learn to brace yourself through the rough parts. - Joe Schwartz Not as terribly rough as similar Arrow coasters but still it caused a headache for me. Glad to hear it's being replaced with Chang from Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom. - Derrick O. Foreman Quite rough... - Eugene Koh This coaster has not aged well at all. Bumpy all throughout for me. It was a great coaster. Not anymore. - Jean Seo-Park Meh. Not nearly as rough as I had expected, but that was because I braced myself and knew what was coming, unlike the rest of the train. I felt like I was the only one that didn't have a neck injury! The only rough parts for ME was the first drop and between the 1st loop and the 2nd and 3rd. Everything else wasn't too bad, and like other arrow coasters, the corkscrews weren't rough. But... this ride wasn't "fun". The loops were over too quick, but my first batwing felt like I was upside down. The g's are a little rough, too. Still, this is just an average ride, just like I rated it. Nothing special, especially because of the sponsors! Both trains are sponsored! - Eli Katzman Scream Machine is not a looper for everyone. While the B&M made Medusa or the Intimin El Toro are smooth as ice, this old Arrow has a few rough patches in its layout. But I'd be hard pressed to cast it aside for being a bit more rough than newer loopers. While riding a coaster like Medusa might make one feel like they're gliding through the air, Scream Machine gives the feeling of riding a runaway frieght train. The loops on GASM are very tight and very G heavy; sitting in the front car is like partaking in a human G force experiment with wild negative/postive G fluctuations. Everything before the mid corse brakes is taken at such a rapid pace that I have actually felt disoriented upon hitting the brakes...and no, that's not because I was hitting my head! After the brakes are four twisted inversions that are taken pretty slowly; they're pretty good, but after the incredible first half, this part pales in comparison.I personally think that GASM is a fairly smooth ride, save for a few bad transitions. After a few rides you can prepare for them (lean into turns, put head down a bit for the loops, and hold onto the upper part of the harness instead of the handles.) Once you master the art of 'defensive riding' Scream Machine will certainly rank higher up. I agree with Jim, this ride is much more intense than many other loopers I've been on...intense in a good way though! - Brian M Personally, I thought this ride was about as exciting as sitting on my sofa. Which I can do for free, by the way. - K P People have said that this ride is pretty bad. They've said it's rough and not so fun. Personally, I thought it was pretty good. The only "rough" part was the turn up to and the abrupt stop right before the batwing. Other than that, it's a solid steel coaster. - Mitch Rozetar This Ride Sucked So Bad. - James Kurek
